"Eye for an Eye" is the lead track of the self-titled debut album Soulfly, released in 1998. "Eye for an Eye" was the first song unveiled by Soulfly. The single was released by Roadrunner Records on February 23, 1998, a day before the album was released in Japan and roughly two months before that parent album came out elsewhere around the world.
"Eye for an Eye" became Soulfly's trademark song, and is played as the closing song of every Soulfly show since 1998. The song marked the new era of Max Cavalera as he was with Sepultura for 12 years before he quit due to dispute with other members and formed Soulfly. The song title and their lyrics were inspired from the 1996 crime thriller film of the same name that Max saw.
The song features Fear Factory members Dino Cazares (playing guitar) and Burton C. Bell (performing vocals). These guests contribute to a fast, Fear Factory-esque riffs.
Lyrics[]
I am what I create
Believing in my fate
Integrity is my name
All that I am doing
Can never be ruined
My song remains insane
Eye for an eye
Eye for an eye
Eye for an eye
Eye for an eye, for an eye, for an eye
Fuck
Get to watch my back
Get let my heart
Believe on day I'll fly
To reunite the tribe
To find a better way
Fucking envy changes everything
Eye for an eye
Eye for an eye
Eye for an eye
Eye for an eye
For an eye, for an eye
That's right
I hit the bottom
You don't understand
Pain, hate, pain
To be born again
Arise again
I believe is the only way
Eye for an eye
Eye for an eye
Eye for an eye
Eye for an eye
For an eye, for an eye
Eye for an eye
Eye for an eye
Eye for an eye
Eye for an eye
