Capitol Square is outstanding well protected in on damage from the recent unrest which is unjustified. The guard at the gate for the executive mansion was spontaneously helpful and answered a lot of questions and gave information.

Arrived early on a Friday morning. The governor's wife greeted us as she was preparing to welcome a number of children. The rooms on the first floor were staffed by friendly, knowledgeable docents. The flowers and garden were beautifully prepared for Virginia Garden week.

The tour was greatly enhanced by the presence of docents in each room pointing out artifacts and explaining the historical significance of the furnishings and paintings. Out in the small garden behind the house, the were serving cookies and iced tea, which added to the spring time festivities. The first lady of Virginia came over to us and introduced herself to us while we were in the house. We felt very welcome and special!! …

The docents were full of fun and historical facts and stories of this longest continuously used executive mansion in the US. The security check was quick and the grounds are beautiful. There was no sighting of the current occupant or pics of his medical school theatrics.

Unless you have any tie with it, it is a historic landmark of Richmond. Based on the information, it is the oldest executive mansion (governor's residence) in the country. It is worth to stop by for a photo op.
