T2 Trainspotting adds an intoxicating, emotionally resonant postscript to its classic predecessor, even without fully recapturing the original's fresh, subversive thrill.

anubislecter For those that are fans of the first movie, they did an awesome job of showing what the characters would be like and where they would be 20 yrs later. Danny Boyle, Irvine Welsh, and John Hodge did a remarkable job of creating a sequel that could stand alone as a movie without trying to recreate or copy from the original. This movie may actually have more emotional moments than the original. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/06/24 Full Review M Q It's different story in similar style like first move, worth see, crazy, remarkable and fun. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/03/24 Full Review Alec C If your teenage life was harder to navigate, your adult life is a lot more complicated! Mark Renton has a near-death experience and returns to his old town and the friends he betrayed in order to find some sense in his complicated life. Mature in its storytelling and emotional at its core, this film brings us back to where things went completely wrong and questions how to make it right! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/21/24 Full Review Serj R "T2 Trainspotting" masterfully reconnects audiences with beloved characters, seamlessly blending nostalgia with fresh perspectives. Director Danny Boyle's dynamic direction and the original cast's chemistry shine, as the film tackles themes of friendship and redemption. While different in tone from its predecessor, the sequel delivers a satisfying and heartfelt continuation that fans will cherish. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/10/23 Full Review Emilio B "T2: Trainspotting" proves to be a worthy sequel, though it doesn't quite match the brilliance of its predecessor. The story, while good, lacks the same level of unpredictability and dark humor that made the original "Trainspotting" so compelling. Also, the absence of a standout soundtrack takes away a vibrant element that enhanced the previous installment. However, the film excels in providing deeper character development. The callbacks to the first film bring a sense of nostalgia and serve as a meaningful tool for further character exploration, without being overdone. The return of the original cast is a delight, with Ewen Bremner delivering a standout performance. Additionally, the film's artistic style, particularly the unique and innovative editing, adds a fresh dimension to the story. Overall, while it may not quite reach the heights of the first film, T2 stands as a commendable sequel with its own merits. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/29/23 Full Review A W It was a great dose of nostalgia to see these characters again and judging the film on its own merits, it was pretty good. The first movie however was a revolution. A definition of what it was to be young. Disturbing, dark, funny and shocking. Unfortunately, all element this sequel did not contain. Michael Sragow Film Comment Magazine You don't have to be gloating over a wasted generation to embrace T2 Trainspotting, a confident, quirky comedy-drama that skillfully alternates bangs and whimpers. Mar 8, 2018 Full Review Matt Singer ScreenCrush The first Trainspotting was about heroin. The second is about another dangerously addictive drug: Nostalgia. Rated: 8/10 May 2, 2017 Full Review Rene Rodriguez Miami Herald "T2 Trainspotting" is mostly a character study of damaged people trying to reconcile their troubled pasts and find a motivation to move forward. Rated: 2.5/4 Mar 30, 2017 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson Being older, but not necessarily wiser, has thinned a noticeable amount of the ferocity of the biting social commentary and dark humor that spills out of Welsh’s characters and Hodge’s screenplay. Rated: 3/5 Sep 4, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Boyle's sequel reconnects with its characters two decades later and treats them with a refreshing dose of the humanity and self-reflectivity that come with age. Rated: 4/4 Apr 4, 2022 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy Like the excellent original, this worthy sequel is similarly distinguished by some memorable set-pieces, superb dialogue, and smashing performances.
