Donna knows Nancy
Reviewed in the United States on 12 February 2018Verified Purchase
As the world's leading Nancy Sinatra scholar, it is my pleasure to review her handpicked essential collection song by song. Nancy is a singer of extremely limited range and often resorts to screaming notes. I have marked her down on the songs she screams on. That hurts Donna's dainty ears.
1. Bang, Bang (7 out of 10) - Has aged well, no screaming, nice guitar work
2. Sugar Town (10 out of 10) - Pure cotton candy classic
3. Somethin' Stupid (8 out of 10) - 10 for the song and Frank, 6 for Nancy
4. The Highway Song (5 out of 10) - There is some screaming here
5. Kind Of A Woman (8 out of 10) - Fun song
6. Love Eyes (5 out of 10) - Nancy screams on this one.
7. Did You Ever? (7 out of 10) - Cute novelty song
8. Flowers In The Rain (5 out of 10) - Definitely not essential
9. In Our Time (3 out of 10) - One of Lee Hazlewood's worst
10. Drummer Man (7 out of 10) - No screaming, nice Hal Blaine work
11. Lady Bird (cute political commentary by Nancy and Lee 6 out of 10)
12. I Love Them All (The Boys In The Band) - 6 out of 10
13. These Boots Are Made For Walkin' - 10 out of 10
14. How Does That Grab You, Darlin'? 7 out of 10 - Boots ripoff
15. Friday's Child - 2 out of 10 - agonizingly screamed by Nancy
16. Jackson - 7 out of 10 - cute Nancy & Lee cover
17. You Only Live Twice - 10 out of 10 - When Nancy is good, she is good
18. Hook And Ladder - 3 out of 10 - Not a hit, not essential
19. Some Velvet Morning - 8 out of 10 - pop Classic
20. So Long, Babe - 8 out of 10, minor hit
21. God Knows I Love You - 2 out of 10, horrible song, horrible singing
22. Here We Go Again - 4 out of 10, bad song, bad singing
23. 100 Years - 2 out of 10, another of Lee Hazlewood's worst
24. Let Me Kiss You - 7 out 10 - she wobbles a little on this comeback record but it is good
25. Machine Gun Kelly (Previously Unreleased) - 1 out of 10 - Awful Awful Awful in EVERY WAY!
26. Shot You Down - Audio Bullys - 1 out of 10 - Stupid remix, unlistenable!

The Lolita of 60's Rock and Pop
Reviewed in the United States on 12 August 2009Verified Purchase
Nancy Sinatra has been a favorite of mine ever since I saw her sing "These Boots are Made for Walking" on American Bandstand and/or The Ed Sullivan Show. All that blonde hair, 60's make-up, the mini skirt and the infamous boots.... She is an icon of that era.
As for this CD... this is a great CD for new Nancy fans. Another would be Nancy Sinatra You Go-Go Girl! (check out the groovy cover photo). Here are some of my favorite tunes on The Essential Nancy Sinatra: All of them!
Seriously: "Bang, Bang," "Sugartown," "In Our Time" and "You Only Live Twice". If anyone thinks Nancy can't sing rock have them listen to "Friday's Child". All of her duets with Lee Hazlewood are great. My only complaint is that their duet of "Summer Wine" is not included.
One of my all-time, top 10 favorite songs is "Something Stupid," which, in case you've been living under a rock, is a duet with her daddy. I always play this one 2 or 3 times. There's something about the guitar (guitars?) at the beginning that sends me.
If you are a true fan and you find the CDs California Girl and Nancy/Lee 3 buy them no matter what the price is... you won't regret it. California Girl has "Saturday in the Park," "99 Miles from LA," and "Cuando Calienta el Sol" (With those guitars... Guitar + Nancy = Heaven). The best song on California Girl? "Hotel California".
(In my opinion) Nancy/Lee 3 has some of their best recordings. It is also the their last studio album. It's hard to find, but it is worth every penny. I had the great pleasure of seeing Nancy and Lee perform at the Fillmore in San Francisco (1995).

Wonderfull

Compilation cd's are never perfect. How many times didn't You thinks/feel that one or another song (you like) is/was missing on the tracklist? This compilation album is (also) proof that Nancy Sinatra was more than the daughter of a father who was one of the greatest in his genre. "These boots are made for walking"? I love the track for over 40 years now. It still feels like it was recorded yesterday. The songs Nancy recorded with Lee Hazlewood are timeless : "Ladybird", and "Some velvet morning" (did Freddie Mercury find inspiration for Bohemian Rhapsody in Some Velvet Morning?). I do love "You only live twice" the best BOND song ever (sorry for those who do not agrea with me), on this album they chose for the "single version" wich is different from the movie version (nice to have). But there are more highlights than the songs I just mentioned, because they are my favourits. "How does that grab You darling" was written after the succes of "These Boots" a carbon copy."Shot You down" is not my favourite either ... All in all, if You want to buy a compilation album of Nancy, this is it.

A Wide Playlist of Nancy Sinatra Favorites
Reviewed in the United States on 17 May 2016Verified Purchase
This Nancy Sinatra collection is a wonderful playlist of hits, album tracks and even an unreleased song. Nancy has the ownership of her music, and there are quite a few different collections released in different countries. Being that I have a few of them, I find this one indispensable. It has most of her biggest hits, and offers many of her excellent lower charting singles. Plus, there are some album tracks included that usually don't appear on her other best of collections. With 26 songs total , there is a wide variety of music that spans Nancy's career. Bonus points for including the unreleased song " Machine Gun Kelly ". It doesn't have 2 essential hits " Lightning's Girl " or " Summer Wine " with Lee Hazlewood. Those are on the excellent US Rhino CD " The Hit Years ". If you love Nancy Sinatra, chances are you'll want this CD to be complete. But if it's the main hits you want, then " The Hit Years " is the one to get.
