This cd is awsome
Reviewed in the United States on March 25, 2013
I guess this review will sound like ramblings from an old man. But, SINCE, I happen to BE an old man, you can either stop reading now,
or continue.
In the summer of '67, I wasn't in San Francisco on a street called "Love". I was an 18-year-old, 333 pound, crew-cutted kid in Cahokia
Village, Illinois. I had friends in a "cover"-band, but all I could play was the radio. I, a 6'5" kid, was helpful moving amps up and down
stairs, and acted as a deterrent when the "greasers" tormented those "boys in the band" that "looked-like Jesus"--- at least to t-h-e-m.
By the time the summer was over, my "Mister Spock" haircut was slicked-back with Vitalis because of the school dress code. I had lost
100 pounds lugging the band's equipment into, and out of, auditoriums, and gymnasiums... but KEPT the nickname "Mountain".
First day of my Senior year in high school, first class, a Study Hall with 150 students, a roll call revealed my name. I yelled "Here!"
A very cute blond girl asked "Any relation to that r-e-a-l-l-y fat kid that wore a trenchcoat all-year, last year?" "Yes! My dead brother!"
I replied. It ended the conversation; she'd've NOT spoken to me LAST year anyway. I eventually took her to a Jimi Hendrix concert.
Graduation: 1968.
She got a job at a bank, and I went to Vietnam.
I married someone -- else; again; and a third time, twenty years ago.
Jimi Hendrix songs reminded me of better days THEN; in Vietnam; and they remind me of better days, NOW.
I'm retired. Moved abroad.
We have an extinct volcano in our backyard. The area we live in is beau-ti-ful ( google "Wachtkueppel Panorama" )... so are ALL the songs in this
collection.
QUESTION: I understand that the background "mumbling" in Purple Haze was accomplished by putting headphones over a studio mike, and recording what
was spoken into them. THAT "mumbling" you can hear from the drivers' side of your car includes Jimi speaking the words [some creepy, as he is dead]:
= = = = = = = = = => "...... Do what I say, do what I say...... Baby look around...... It ain't easy...... I SING to myself......" <= = = = = = = = = =
......................................................................................................................................................................................
I'm absolutely positive of t-w-o of those lines, but MAY be wrong with t-w-o --- any authorities with graphic equalizers?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jimi Hendrix made only FOUR vinyl albums during his brief lifetime. All of the BEST of those songs are right here. If you have some of the OTHER compelations,
you'll want THIS because of:
==> * ARE YOU EXPERIENCED?
==> * CASTLES MADE OF SAND
==> * WILD THING
==> * IF 6 WAS 9
==> * GLORIA --- I didn't have this one. An old 45RPM?
This CD collection is RARE, and OUT-OF-PRINT. If the NEW price is out of the question, you can always get one "USED".
Always something GOOD in something BAD. I flunked first grade -- BUT, it got me out of a year... in Vietnam.
Greatest guitarist of all time. Just ask ANYBODY!
Pete Townsand and Eric Clapton were at a Hendrix concert in England -- back-in-the-day, looked at each other and said
"Bloke, we ARE finished*!"

If you only have one Jimi Hendrix album this should probably be it. I have 14 of his albums, but this is my go to. Sound is pretty decent too.

Love the sound quality. I bought this particular CD because of just one complete song on it that is extremely hard to find!

It took me a long time to find this on CD. I have the vinyl version, and for a Jimi Hendrix album, I played this one the most. The vinyl version is awesome, but this is without the fuss and muss of the discwasher and zerostat treatment before setting needle to record for each album side. With the vinyl album, there are four sides.

I had both of these sets when I was younger and just loved them. To me, it had just about everything a Hendrix fan would want at the time. There has been a lot of Hendrix music that's seen the light of day since then, but to me, this is still all a listener would need. Back in the 70's, Volume One was a two album set and Volume Two mixed studio tracks with some of his most famous live recordings. The Two-CD combines it all basically chronologically, at least the studio tracks, and puts the live tracks at the end, along with a previously unreleased version of Van Morrison's "Gloria," that's worth tracking this down for. Of course, it was released in the late 80's/early 90's, and is out of print......the sound is not as sharp as newer reissues, but a Hendrix fan, new or old, would be hard-pressed to beat this collection.

Jimi Hendrix
The Essential Jimi Hendrix Volumes One and Two
(2 CD Set)
To the J.H. Fan who has all of the Hendrix albums: This is the ONLY place where you are going to find Jimi Hendrix's studio version of Van Morrison's GLORIA. It is the last track of the set. Jimi's GLORIA is so glorious that it is worth buying this set just to have this one song.
To those who want a `best of Jimi' CD set, this is as good as it gets. This 2 CD set has Jimi's best studio songs, along with his historic version of "Wild Thing" from the Monterey Pop Festival of 1967 as well as his historic version of "The Star Spangled Banner" from the 1969 Woodstock Festival.
This rates 5 Stars for the casual fan
This rates 5 Stars for the fanatic, because of its inclusion of "Gloria".
This is a 5 Star set!

I always liked jimi Hendrix . This was one of the first releases after his passing. The sound is not current but the songs are good. It is a little hard to find but there are many used copies out there for sale. I don 't think hs family has authorized this product for reissue but it be very nice if they did . The demand is there so they could allow a rerelease like they did for Hendrix in the West or his Smash Zhots album . The no-noise would be removed and improved sound will replace it.

I bought the vinyl of this back in the 70s and listened to it endlessly (stoner days!), i'm now overjoyed to have it on my iPod and crystal clear to enjoy at home and anywhere. If you're a Hendrix fan, this is an essential compilation

Very disappointing from a sound aspect. This is definitely a CD that I want in my Hendrix collection, but had to return it. No news yet of a replacement.
