Erik ten Hag admits it is ‘disappointing’ to not have Anthony Martial available after the Manchester United star picked up another knock at the weekend.

Martial has suffered three separate injuries that have disrupted his 2022-23 season after an impressive pre-season campaign.

When fit, the 26-year-old has shown glimpses of what he can bring to Erik ten Hag’s side, scoring off the bench against Manchester City and Omonia before providing an assist in his first start of the season on Sunday against Everton.

It was a short-lived return, however, with Martial forced off inside half an hour.

Providing an update on the forward, ten Hag told a presser ahead of the visit of Omonia on Thursday, ten Hag said: ‘Not [training] today, we will see before Sunday.’

Despite Marcus Rashford starting the season in good form with five goals and with Cristiano Ronaldo on target again at Goodison Park, Martial’s absence leaves United light up top during a packed fixture schedule in October.

While ten Hag did not reveal how long the Frenchman will be out for, he described his latest setback has ‘really disappointing’ having seen what he contributes to the team.

‘I have had several talks with him about that, it is really disappointing for him,’ ten Hag said.

‘I think from the quality and all the minutes he played, he played very well. Also on Sunday.

‘He got a good assist for Antony’s goal but also in the pressing he was really good and he was an important factor in us playing so well in the first half.

‘But obviously, he fell out and that is a disappointment for him and for the team as well.’

United remain without club captain Harry Maguire who is still recovering from an injury suffered on international duty with England.

Donny van de Beek and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are also unavailable for the Europa League clash on Thursday night. United are back in Premier League action at home to Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.
