Built in 1896, when the Irish regained their rights to their culture, religion and education. St. Louis nuns would come from Ramsgrange (3.5km) by horse & cart. Teachers, boys, and girls had their own entrances and toilets. Boys were upstairs and girls downstairs. Later it was mixed (according to those in the village who went to school there) The floor upstairs is original. Be sure to look at the great old photos of the Schoolhouse & Ballyhack on the walls of the pub.

The space
Upstairs was one big, open classroom with an alcove. It's divided into one bedroom in the alcove, partitioned by a wall with privacy glass.
The other bedroom is ensuite and is in the end of the big room, with a queen bed, wardrobes and double sofa bed.
There is one bathroom (off the main bedroom) and two more toilets, one upstairs, one downstairs.

The cabinetry, bookshelves, queen bed and kitchen table were handmade by local craftsmen. The kitchen cabinets are made with reclaimed wood and the downstairs floors are our own red deal.

Bicycles are welcome with several places to store them both inside and out.

Remember, it's 125 years old and is not going to be perfect - floors may groan, walls may be crooked ...

The schoolhouse is two stories, with a spiral staircase inside. There are 6 doors to get outside in a hurry, if needed. The balcony off a bedroom upstairs is great for watching the ferry and ships coming up the estuary towards Waterford or going back out to sea on the tide. The back yard has limited accessibility. The two outside doors in the sunroom can be opened to let in fresh air. One side has the charcoal BBQ and outdoor table & chairs.

Other things to note
Cell reception is not great if using Vodafone. The Wi-Fi, however, is very good!
You can park a car near the entrance but if your group has two cars, please don't park both in front of the neighbour's house.
For those staying a week or more, there will be a standard allotment for electricity & oil per week. Anything over will be charged at the price I'm charged - this is not a money making exercise nor a punishment!
