Tuition and Fees

We recognize that a quality private educational experience comes at a significant cost for any family.At Emma Willard School, we are committed to making the cost of our learning and living experience as clear and manageable as possible for families. The annual cost to attend Emma Willard for the 2024–2025 academic year is:

Our boarding rate is inclusive of tuition, dining, rooming, and laundry. Our day rate is inclusive of tuition and dining. Annual tuition does not include student SmartCard spending, off-campus activities, and certain weekend programming. Books, athletic equipment, and services such as private instruction in music and/or transportation are billed separately. See below for a full breakdown of additional costs and fees.

To add money to your student's Smart Card account you may also log in to myEmma select the "Make a Payment" tile under Resources.

Payment Options

Ten Payments

The monthly payment plan allows you to spread your student's education expenses over smaller interest-free monthly installments paid over the course of the school year. Your only cost is a $50 enrollment fee.

The enrollment deposit must be paid by March 10. The remaining net tuition, fees and other charges must be paid in 10 interest free payments beginning on May 10 and ending on February 10. There is an annual fee of $50 that will be billed to your tuition account if you select this payment option. If you select this option, Emma Willard will enroll you in the plan upon receiving your student's enrollment contract and will bill you for monthly payments as they come due.

Additional Costs & Fees

Most of the costs associated with an Emma Willard education are incorporated in the tuition for boarding and day students. However, the annual tuition does not include optional off-campus activities and various weekend activities. Books, athletic equipment, and special services such as private instruction in music or practicum transportation are also billed separately. See below for more details on any additional costs and fees you may incur.

Smart Card

All students are issued a SmartCard at the beginning of each academic year. The SmartCard is a combination student ID, building access card, student spending account that can be used for purchases in the school store, and an account where other expenses related to student life are charged. This includes such things as testing fees (PSAT, SAT, AP, etc.), class field trips and music supplies. Other charges might include the cost of medical prescriptions, practicum driving, airport shuttle (NYC), athletic apparel, and the yearbook. Some mandatory school fees are deducted from the account, such as class dues. Student activities such as transportation for weekend excursions, cultural events and social outings will also be charged to the SmartCard. The SmartCard is designed to cover most academic related charges and cash needs an Emma Willard student will have. Every student is required to have a SmartCard.

Books

Private Lessons

Students interested in pursuing private music and/or voice lessons have the opportunity to do so at a cost of $780 per semester. This per semester cost covers 13 50-minute lessons.

Students will be allowed to add/drop lessons for up to two weeks or two lessons, whichever is sooner. If a student drops the course before the third lesson, a full refund (less the pro-rated cost of the lessons attended) for the semester will be given. If a student drops the course after the third lesson, no refund will be given.

Transportation

School Holiday
Emma provides free, faculty-sponsored transportation to and from the Albany airport and local rail and bus stations when the school closes for various holidays. There is a charge, however, for students who need transportation to JFK or Newark Airports. This charge is divided equally among the students making the trip together and will be charged to the SmartCard.
