In 1814, Emma Hart Willard established a school for girls to receive a rich educational experience comparable with their brothers. She pioneered girls’ education, focusing on intellectually stimulating and rigorous courses of study. Over 200 years later, Emma Willard School continues to proudly foster a love of learning, the habits of an intellectual life, and the character, moral strength, and qualities of leadership to serve and shape her world.

Starting with the teachers, they are always approachable and helpful for any questions or help that I may need in class. During my time here, I was able to try out two new sports, while sticking to the ones I already knew. They provide the flexibility and opportunity to try out new activities and even encourage it. My college counselor is absolutely amazing and I guided me through the whole processes; through every up and every down. My classes are challenging but engaging, and I look forward to them everyday. The learning environment is not competitive, yet the students here push each other to reach your individual potential by helping each other. I will be forever grateful of my high school experience.
There are so many things about this school that the administration keeps out of the news. For example, we're unable to take AP classes. We have "AS" classes, but we're unable to take AP exams, and we can't even take AS classes unless we write a petition to the administration asking for permission. This year, no petitions for extra AS classes were approved, which makes me wonder why they had us fill out petitions in the first place. Also, we can't even go to other schools to take the AP exams if you're a boarding student, or else you'll get punished. Also, the school doesn't offer the SAT.
They also limit leadership opportunities per student, which hurts our college applications
The facilities are cheap too. The dorms have horrible sound insulation, you can hear everything everyone is saying nearby. The dorms also don't have air conditioning, except for one building. During the warm months, everyone is dying from the heat.

Emma Willard is a great school and we are fortunate that our daughter can attend the school. The campus is beautiful and well-maintained. Emma Willard changes with needs and is currently building a new performing art center. The dorms are comfortable.
The academics are amazing. I am always surprised by the breath of classes offered and the options for individual instruction/opportunities via practicum. Like many other leading schools, Emma moved away from "AP" classes for "Advanced Studies (AS)". As a parent who took many AP classes, I am happy for this shift. AP classes are advanced but too geared towards the test. I like the AS option to provide the true advance option/ deep dive and not chasing the test.
Sports range at Emma Willard. In recent years students have committed to D1 positions and the rowing team competed at the National level. Some teams found success in teaching the sport to new players.
I am fortunate and I wish others could have the same experience as my child.
