43% 7 Reviews Tomatometer 33% Fewer than 50 Ratings Audience Score Elyse (Lisa Pepper) languidly meanders out of a cold, concrete, designer house mirroring a mausoleum, externalizing the spirit of her dead son, Cody. She returns home disoriented, unwilling to join the family dinner, misconceives the gathering as a threat to her private life, and is unwarrantedly infuriated with her egocentric mother, Goldie, and her devoted husband, Steven. In a psychotic blackout, Elyse commits vehicular manslaughter of her son and his nanny, Julia. Elyse isn't the only victim; her delusional thinking, narcissism, and violence annihilate her husband. Memory and hallucination intertwine to expose a history of trauma, revealing the truth: Elyse is Catatonic and institutionalized in a State Hospital. Elyse's recovery is reliant on the dissolution of her marriage, the restoration of the relationship with her mother, and the mutual absolution with the nanny's daughter, Carmen. It's the care from Dr. Lewis (Anthony Hopkins) and the unconditional love from her nurse, David, that promise Elyse a new life. Read More Read Less Watch on Fandango at Home Premiered Apr 16 Buy Now

vander a It is past awful. Where did they get these actors? They are the worst actors ever seen. People in soap operas deserve Academy Awards compared to the actors in this movie. You've got to assume the director is a relation of some sort to Anthony Hopkins because there's no other reason on this earth why he would be in should an awful movie; story, script, dialogue, acting. It's hard to list whose acting is worse but Elyse and her husband both compete for worst actor and I think he wins. It's too much trouble to look up the relationship of Stella Hopkins to Anthony Hopkins but no relative deserves to ruin a career. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is a slog with a ridiculous premise. It was predictable and painful to watch. I want my 90 minutes back. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Don't bother. It made me sad to see Anthony Hopkins in such a poor movie. Leslie Felperin Guardian The tonal shifts flicker like a strobe light, while the mannered use of black and white, with a later shift to full colour, comes across as pretentious and literal rather than evocative of the character's inner state. Rated: 2/5 May 25, 2021 Full Review Richard Roeper Chicago Sun-Times You'll hear the warning bells signifying a Category 5 Pretentiousness Alert right from the start of the ponderous and stiff psychological drama "Elyse," and it's not a false alarm. Rated: 1.5/4 Dec 4, 2020 Full Review Frank Scheck Hollywood Reporter Unconvincing on every level.
