Who is Oscar Isaac’s wife Elvira Lind?
Lind, 40, is a Danish filmmaker. Her first documentary feature, Songs for Alexis, premiered at Toronto’s Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in 2014. In 2017, she directed the documentary Bobbi Jene, about American dancer Bobbi Jene Smith’s decision to leave the prestigious Israeli dance company Batsheva and start her own troupe in the United States. It was shown at the Tribeca Film Festival and won awards for Best Documentary Feature, Best Editing and Best Cinematography in a Documentary Feature. Her short film, The Letter Room, starred Isaac and was nominated for Best Short Film at the 93rd Academy Awards in April 2021.
How did Oscar Isaac meet his wife Elvira Lind?
Isaac met Lind in 2012 while he was working on Inside Llewyn Davis. The dark comedy follows a folk singer played by Isaac in the early 1960s trying to make a name for himself in Greenwich Village. Isaac told NPR that one of the ways he researched his character was by going to parties and interacting with people the way Davis would. Apparently, Lind was at one of these gatherings. “I went to a party, and I was forced to be at this party, and I went dressed as Llewyn," Isaac explained. "It was a month before shooting. And then I was sitting in the corner just eating. I was the only person eating at the party. And this girl who ended up, she's a documentary filmmaker, so obviously she spotted the weirdo and went directly to that one… And sat with me and talked to me for a long time. And I guess she liked the whole thing.” Later that year, Isaac performed with Bobbi Jene Smith in a dance piece titled Arrowed, filmed by Lind as part of her documentary on Smith.

Lind and Isaac went public as a couple when they attended the 2016 Golden Globes together. Isaac won Best Actor in a Miniseries or Television Film that night for his work in David Simon’s Show Me a Hero, and before going up to accept, he kissed Lind on the lips. (Before that moment, gossip sites had frequently referred to her as Maria Miranda, Isaac’s previous serious girlfriend/possible fiancée.)
When did Oscar Isaac get married?
Isaac and Lind were married in March 2017. In an interview with GQ Style a year later, Isaac listed "tons of reasons" for their decision to tie the knot. “[Lind is] not a citizen, and she was very pregnant, and there was an element of figuring out ‘Well, where are we going to be?’ And us wanting to be a family unit a bit more," he said. "Also, the Danes, they don't really believe in marriage. I think it has a lot to do with the equality of the sexes over there. Marriage doesn't mean anything financially, because the state takes care of people. So the marriage itself becomes less important. But, you know, at the time, right before it happened, my mom was ill, and so I saw her carrying my child, bathing my sick mom—seeing her do that, I just thought, 'I want to be with this person forever and ever." The ceremony took place about a month after Isaac’s mother passed away, and a month before their son Eugene was born.
Was Oscar Isaac married before Elvira Lind?
It’s not clear if Isaac was married prior to his marriage to Lind. In 2007, the New York Daily News reported that Isaac proposed to the aforementioned Miranda in front of the Lincoln Center Fountain. Miranda was reportedly Isaac’s childhood sweetheart, according to the Mirror. There were rumors that the two were married and then divorced, even some rumors that their divorce happened weeks before Isaac was linked to Lind, but nothing has ever been confirmed on either of those accounts.

Here's one marriage we're sure never happened: Isaac and Chastain—who were acting students together at the Julliard School about 20 years ago—have never been romantically involved. However, big-time rumors about the two surfaced after they were photographed at the Venice Film Festival in September 2021 while promoting their HBO drama Scenes From a Marriage. In a red-carpet video that went viral, Isaac seemed to nuzzle (perhaps even smooch or sniff?) Chastain’s upper arm, and their chemistry in the moment surely seemed undeniable.
Well, of course, they have chemistry: the two have been good friends “more than half of our lives,” as Chastain later said on TODAY. In addition to Scenes From a Marriage, they also played a married couple in 2014’s A Most Violent Year.
