The Don Ellis Orchestra – Electric Bath

i came here to check if the cover really is the same as in Pete La Roca – Turkish Women At The Bath from 1967. and i am very pleased that the rumour is true.

The album is excellent. This pressing does not do it justice, though. It's a bit too quiet, unenthusiastic and lacks dynamic range.

Fantastic record. Mine has very quiet vinyl. A big band performance at its best. Very well recorded.

This album fits in right there with 'Sgt. Pepper' and 'Their Satanic Majesties Request'. Has a psychedelic and soulful big band aesthetic, especially 'Turkish Bath' that uses those Minor 9th color tone chords that Hendrix liked so much and sprawled everywhere on the 'Axis Bold As Love' album. Has great counterpoint in the horn solos that are really close together in pitch that reminds me a bit of Gerry Mulligan, but much more subtle.

Bought for the naked women. Stayed for the jazz.

that album and if you notice the Matrix Runout is the same as for the US version. This means he record was likely pressed in the same pressing plant but they put a label with made in Canada. The only other difference is on the back cover they took off the New York Address and the printed in USA.
