Known for her stunning looks and playing the femme fatale in shows such as From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series and Baby Driver, Mexican actress Eiza González has been gradually making her mark in the entertainment industry, a star on the rise.

In 3 Body Problem, Netflix’s new science fiction series, she portrays a character that’s a little different than the roles we’ve seen her play in the past: Augustina “Auggie” Salazar is a lead scientist at the Nanotechnology Research Center who starts having some very strange visions as a result of otherworldly beings.

In honour of the series’ premiere this past weekend, Bazaar Arabia is sharing ten little-known facts about rising star Eiza González.

She’s From Mexico

The 34-year-old hails from Mexico City and she was born on January 30, 1990, to Carlos González and Glenda Reyna.

Eiza González‘s Mother is A Formal Model

Her mum, Glenda, served in the past as a judge on the TV series Mexico’s Next Top Model. She also once owned a modelling agency, Glenda Modeling Training.

She’s A Polyglot

According to her IMDB page Eiza is fluent in Spanish, English, and Italian. She has also appeared in Spanish-speaking productions.

She Started in Showbiz As A Teen

Getting into the industry quite early on in her life, Eiza made her screen debut on the 2007 Mexican teen series Lola, érase una vez (Lola, Once Upon a Time) where she played a modern-day Cinderella at the age of 17.

She also went on to act in a few other Mexican telenovelas, including Mañana es para siempre and Sueña conmigo.

She Has Been Open About Her Mental Health Struggles

Eiza tragically lost her father in a motorcycle accident when she was just 12 years old. Later in September 2015, she revealed that due to this trauma she suffered from compulsive overeating and depression from 15 to 20 years of age.

The Godzilla vs. Kong actress has also shared how she has been in therapy since she was young, and she considers it to be one of her dating “non-negotiables”, saying that she isn’t open to getting romantically involved with anyone who hasn’t gone into counselling.

She Loves Giving Back To The Community

Aside from her acting ventures, Eiza likes giving back to the global community. She’s worked with the nonprofit This Is About Humanity, which helps raise awareness about families from both sides of the US-Mexico border who are separated.

Along with immigration, she’s also a strong proponent of women’s rights and Black Lives Matter, among other issues.

She Plays Auggie Salazar in 3 Body Problem

The latest series she stars in, 3 Body Problem, is an American science fiction television show created by David Benioff, D. B. Weiss and Alexander Woo, based on the Chinese novel The Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin.

Eiza plays the role of strong and visionary Augustina “Auggie” Salazar, based on the character of Wang Miao.
