Edward O'Meara, also known as Ted O'Meara, is a self-employed public affairs and corporate communications consultant based in Portland, Maine. He has been active in state politics for more than 30 years, working for former Senator Olympia Snowe (R) and serving as chairman of the Maine Republican Party.[1] Campaigns and Elections Magazine mentioned him as part of its 2013 "Influencers 500" list.[2]

Career

O’Meara attended the University of Maine and received a B.A. in political science in 1974.[1] He worked as the chief staff person for Olympia Snowe (R) during her first U.S. House of Representatives term during the late 1970s and early 1980s, later serving as former Senator William S. Cohen’s (R) executive assistant for eight years.[3]

O’Meara ran for Maine’s 1st congressional district seat in 1988, winning the Republican primary but losing the general election to Democrat Joseph Brennan. In 1990, he was elected chairman of the Maine Republican Party.[3][4]

In the late 1990s, O’Meara began his work in corporate communications and public affairs consulting. He became director of corporate communications for Guy Gannett Communications, a media publishing company, in 1997.[1][5]

O’Meara joined Blethen Maine Newspapers as director of marketing and communications in 1999 and worked there until 2001, when he started work as managing director at Pierce Atwood Consulting (Maine’s largest law firm). He served as chair of Olympia Snowe’s re-election bid for the U.S. Senate in 2006.[1][6]

In 2009, O’Meara founded his own public affairs consulting firm called Ted O’Meara Communications and served as a principal until 2011, when he started work as managing principal for public affairs at Garrand, a marketing communications firm.[1][7][8] In 2014, he managed Eliot Cutler’s gubernatorial campaign.[9]

As of December 2015, O’Meara was working as a self-employed corporate communications and public affairs consultant, a role he assumed in July 2015.[1]
