Former Bears Pro Bowl Player Finds Work

After being cut by the Bears for salary cap purposes before free agency, Cody Whitehair has rejoined Luke Getsy with the Raiders.

Former Bears guard/center Cody Whitehair has reduced the list of Bears unsigned free agents by one and joined a familiar face in the process.

Whitehair signed a one-year contract for $2.5 millwith $1.4 million guaranteed to join the Las Vegas Raiders, according to Pro Football Network's Adam Caplan.

Whitehair, a former Pro Bowl player, had been released by the Bears before free agency began for salary cap purposes. His $4.1 million in dead cap is their second-largest dead-cap hit this year.

The 31-year-old Whitehair, drafted in Round 2 in 2016 by the Bears, will find the adjustment to the Raiders offensive system a little less severe than some offensive changes can be since their offensive coordinator is Luke Getsy, who was fired after last season by the Bears

Former Bears assistants Luke Steckel and Tim Zetts are also on the Raiders staff.

Safety Eddie Jackson, defensive end Yannick Ngakoue, center Lucas Patrick, tight end Robert Tonyan Jr., tight end Marcedes Lewis, defensive end Rasheem Green, wide receiver Trent Taylor, linebacker Dylan Cole and tackle Roy Mbaeteka are the other Bears who had roles with the team last year but are still unsigned for this season.

Wide receiver Darnell Mooney (3 years, $39 million, Atlanta), defensive tackle Justin Jones (3 years, $31.165 million, Arizona), center/guard Dan Feeney (1 year, $1.8 million, Minnesota), running back D'Onta Foreman (1 year, $1.292 million, Cleveland), quarterback Nathan Peterman (1 year, $1.292 million, New Orleans) and wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown (1 year, terms TBA, New Orleans) are the former Bears who have signed elsewhere.
