Ebon Che Moss-Bachrach is an actor from America who has garnered fame for portraying David Lieberman in the series ‘The Punisher’ and Niels Sørensen in the series ‘The Last Ship’. A native of Massachusetts, Moss-Bachrach developed a deep passion for acting quite early in his life. He studied at Amherst Regional High School in Massachusetts before enrolling at the Columbia University. He made his acting debut in the 1999 TV movie ‘Murder in a Small Town’. Two years later, he had his big-screen debut in the drama film ‘The Believer’. In the next few years, he played a variety of characters in both TV projects and films. In 2008, he was cast in his breakthrough role, as John Quincy Adams, in the TV miniseries ‘John Adams’. Moss-Bachrach was part of the cast of the FX legal drama ‘Damages’ in the season three of the show. Between 2014 and 2017, he portrayed the highly polarizing character Desi Harperin in the HBO series ‘Girls’. At present, he stars as Chris McQueen in the AMC series ‘NOS4A2’. Alongside his thriving screen career, Moss-Bachrach has also been active on stage, performing in productions of plays like ‘Fifth of July’ and ‘Three Sisters’.

In 1999, Ebon Moss-Bachrach began his career as an actor by appearing in the telefilm ‘Murder in a Small Town’. His cinematic debut came about two years later in writer/director Henry Bean’s ‘The Believer’. That year, he also appeared in the romantic comedy ‘Never Again’, comedy-drama ‘The Royal Tenenbaums, and an episode of the NBC police procedural drama series ‘Law & Order: Criminal Intent’. In 2002, he acted in the Comedy Central telefilm, ‘Porn 'n Chicken’, which was filmed in the Columbia University campus. He played an MTV director in the biographical crime-drama ‘American Splendor’ in 2003.
He then starred in Damon Dash’s musical comedy ‘Death of a Dynasty’. In ‘Mona Lisa Smile’, he got the chance to work with Julia Roberts, Kirsten Dunst, and Julia Stiles.
In 2005, he made his second appearance in the Law & Order television franchise, portraying a character named Danny Wallace in a season-one episode of ‘Law & Order: Trial by Jury’. For his performance, he was nominated for an OFTA Television Award for Best Guest Actor in a Drama Series. In the same year, he and his co-star Catherine Kellner won the Jury Award for Outstanding Performance at the Los Angeles Film Festival for the mystery drama film ‘Road’.
In 2006, he guest-starred in yet another Law & Order show, ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’. He lent his voice to author Paul Krassner in the 2007 animated documentary ‘Chicago 10’. In 2008, he played a young John Quincy Adams in the HBO miniseries ‘John Adams’. His performance in this project ended up changing the trajectory of his career. He continued to play various roles in indie films. In 2011, he worked in Vera Farmiga’s directorial venture ‘Higher Ground’. He was cast alongside Sharon Stone and Christopher Walken in the comedy-drama ‘Gods Behaving Badly’ (2013). From 2014 to 2015, he appeared as Niels Sørensen in the first and second seasons of the TNT post-apocalyptic action-drama series ‘The Last Ship’.
Moss-Bachrach’s character in ‘Girls’, Desi Harperin, is a musician and actor and seems like a sweet, sensitive, and creative individual. However, he can be extremely manipulative and goes on to have an affair with Marnie Michaels (Allison Williams) despite having a girlfriend. In the first season (2017) of the Netflix comic book series ‘The Punisher’, he played the secondary protagonist, David Linus Lieberman. Operating under the moniker Micro, Lieberman is a former NSA analyst who teams up with Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) to uncover the conspiracy that resulted in the death of the latter’s family.
In the 2018 film ‘The Big Take’, he plays Douglas Brown, who suddenly finds himself being blackmailed. He shared the screen space with Emily Mortimer, Grace Van Patten, and Nat Wolff in writer/director Dolly Wells’ comedy-drama ‘Good Posture’ (2019). Recently, he began portraying Chris McQueen in the AMC supernatural horror drama series ‘NOS4A2’(2019-present).
One of his earliest works on stage was in the Primary Stages’ production of ‘When They Speak of Rita’ in 2000. Since then, he has performed as John Bell in The Public Theatre’s ‘36 Views’ (2002), Weston Hurley in The Signature Theatre Company’s ‘Fifth of July’ (2003), Carrick in Playwright Horizon’s ‘On the Mountain’ (2005), and Baron Tuzenbach in Classic Stage Company’s ‘Three Sisters’ (2011).

Born on March 19, 1977, in Amherst, Massachusetts, USA, Moss-Bachrach is the son of Eric Bachrach and Renee Moss. His father ran a non-profit community music school, while his mother owned a second-hand children's clothing store. His middle name “Che” comes from the Argentinian revolutionist/guerrilla leader, Che Guevara. He was a student at Amherst Regional High School in Massachusetts and later studied at Columbia University.
Moss-Bachrach has two daughters with Ukrainian professional photographer, painter, and film director Yelena Yemchuk, with whom he has been in a relationship for a long time. The family presently resides in Brooklyn, New York.
