First Japanese departmental store. Do take the lift up to the fifth floor where you can have a coffee or iced tofu pudding in the quaint old shops.

After, browse through the five floors to see the various clothing and shoes and household goods.

What was supposed to be a 30 minute shopping spree became a 1 1/2 hour stint through the independent and original stalls across each floor.

We were there around 5.30pm. It was not too crowded and we could walk at ease. There were food and drink stalls, games stalls, accessories (earrings, phones), apparel etc. The crowd started to stream in when we left around 7pm. Do visit this night market early to avoid the crowd.

2km walk from the Garden Night Market we came here and realised it’s just a smaller version of Garden Night Market with the variety you generally like in night markets between food, clothes and games.

We went to Garden Night Market but could only spend 1.5 hours here but found it enjoyable.

For Tainan if you have done Da-dong, Garden markets make sure you come here.

It’s also within walking distance to the old street which is not much of an old street compared to the ones in Taipei or near Anping fort.

This is a high end mall selling lots of signature brands. There is a nice food court with lots of choices of local food.

Christmas is round the corner, so they have many nice decorations. They have set up an outdoor Christmas area, where you can take festive photos.

Went during the day, on a warm November afternoon. Tons of school children, all in uniforms, running around. There are a number of food vendors, but more there seemed to be more souvenir shops. We managed to find a great place for soup near the end of the road. No English was spoken, however Google translate and pointing worked well. Also tried Coffin bread - a place sold half pieces, which was all I could eat. Ice cream from street vendors were a better deal, 30 NTD vs 50 from stores.

I am guessing this is the ‘it’ mall of the district, with something for the whole family. there was zara home, eslite bookstore, quality food places and a good departmental store. there was even a night market with young people selling fashion accessories and quality clothes during the weekend I was there

No. 1 building of the Tainan Art Museum is worth a visit, although the No. 2 building is the real star. No. 1 building had some great works upstairs, and the coffee shop with tables under the stunner of a banyan tree is a real treat.

I have marked it down one star for the lack of English interps on the building redevelopment. I get that we’re in Taiwan, but you need to consider whether you are catering to tourists, or not.

Thought it was just a boring souvenir place but I was really wrong. This is kind of like a gathering of artists studios each with its own crafts and none is the same.. there’s fashion, landscape, books, museum, etc. the most interesting to me is the wood shop which sells pieces of fragrant wood from different tree species. Just wood with smell. Had a good time here exploring. Will definitely plan for more of this kind of visit when next in Taiwan.

This is mostly a food market although one can find cellular gadgets and some clothing. But it certainly is a good place to experience exotic street food. Loved it

There are two night markets in this vicinity so don’t get confused if you go to the wrong one. This one here should be named Xiaobei Tourist Night Market. And the other is called Xiaobei Xin Chenggong Night Market. The former is roofed over and seems to be permanent and the latter is in an open carpark. I prefer the latter as it more windy (naturally) and is more lively. Somehow when things are temporary, there’s always this feel of excitement. Perhaps like a flower which blooms brightly for a while and then fades away.
