This district is suitable for settling down. The Tainan Train Station is situated in this district and the transport hub. Behind the train station stands the tallest building in Tainan. There are department stores and hotels surrounding the station. Furthermore, the National Cheng Kung University and its green area cover a vast area of land. The district, therefore, sends out an academic, yet relaxed atmosphere. The alleyways on Dasyue Road near the university are filled with restaurants and shops offering exotic cuisine. It is a quiet getaway in the hustle and bustle of the city. The Banyan Garden and the green area are a top choice for the public to have a walk after picnic. Many foreigners visit here every year. The Old Tainan Magistrate Residence is the historic monument that is the most well-preserved and at the same time the most luxurious during the Japanese rule. The Great East Gate on Dongmen Road is perfectly in sync with the modern busy traffic. The seed museum hidden in the alleyway in the EastDistrict is a utopia that is highly recommended. As for Yongkang District, it is the biggest satellite town in Tainan. Though it is modern and busy, it has stories to tell. For those who want to have a glimpse of the history of early Tainan’s development, visit here.
Eat, see, and stay in EastDistrict/ Yongkang District
The University campus is well spread out. One of the most interesting sites is the one hundred year old tree planted by the Japanese during the occupation of Taiwan and the barracks close by the architecture typical of that period.
Look for the lime green color and the "i" for information. The day we inquired we were given very good directions for both an ATM machine and a bus stop. The ticket sellers speak fine English and were helpful in what I needed to get done there. As another reviewer noted there are only two platforms for trains, and the...
A beautiful park hiden in a silent community but easily accessible. The location is opposite to the Culture Center of Tainan City across a drive way. If you are nearby this area, you can visit by the way.
I love this BBQ restaurant. Been here about 5 time now over the years. The choice of food is amazing, highly recommend the pork and chicken. Wagu beef is melt in the mouth. Booking highly advised. Can’t beat BBQ and a cold beer!
beef, pork, poultry, seafood, all very well season or raw, fresh and juicy, better to make reservation on weekends and week nights. Very kind staff and good atmosphere makes it a fine dining experience even for travelers
I think this is a Taiwanese style fast food restaurant. Instead of the typical hamburger and fries, they have different combination meals. They had like curry fried chicken burger with hot noodles combo. It was very unusual combination meals like McDonald's so it was only okay for me. Most combo is around $90-120. They don't speak English there because I...
Hotel is nice but very far from the city center. Nothing going on in the surrounding area except for a party/wedding venue next door.
Transit time to the science park (TSMC) is much shorter than from the downtown hotels.
One of the best breakfast buffet that I had in Tainan. Many various kind of food, both Taiwan and western food. The bedroom is spacious and clean. The price is also reasonable. The night market is close by. Highly recommended!
The hotel is conveniently located, right next to the train station and within walking distance to city center. We were well look after by the team at the Horizon Lounge,
Nancy, Michelle, Ivy, Joseph......, (I wish I could remember all their names), provided excellent service, warm and prompt. I felt like coming home.
Our two weeks round Taiwan trip included...
Stayed one night in December (27th) as a stopover on a 3-day tour with family. We arrived in the evening and as I watched the route our driver had driven to the hotel, I could see how other reviewers had difficulty finding the place; it's sort of hidden. It wasn't until the next morning that I could better appreciate the...
Stayed one night on our short tour of Taiwan. Lovely hotel and sumptuous rooms. large and very clean with separate toilet and bath/ shower.
The breakfast room was large and also clean. Again food was of Taiwanese variety of Chinese food. Good quality but not as extensive. As we stayed only for one night. Not sure if it near the...
