25 Years Ago Today – Tom Waits Releases ‘Mule Variations’ Album

25 years ago today (4/16/99), Tom Waits released Mule Variations, his twelfth studio album. It was Waits’ first studio album since The Black Rider (1993) and is considered a “later career” success for the artist who never fails to attract new listeners. Mule Variations won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album and was nominated for Best Male Rock Performance for the track “Hold On” and ended up selling more than 500,000 copies worldwide.
