The Electric Light Orchestra* – ELO 2

ELO II features the band after the departure of Roy Wood. They became an actual band, not just a recording project as originally conceived. This is ELO with the umbilical to late The Move still attached; give "Looking On" a spin along with this. It's proggier and heavier than following ELO albums. Tracks are loooong. This is perfect early 70s late night FM DJ bathroom break material. Oddly, you can hear a distant glimmer of Cheap Trick - CT took swipes at ELO, but you know they loved em.

I dunno what's up with UA Records from around this time. With the exception of WAR, they all sound like they were mastered with a drill bit. That could be down to the production values of stuff I have, though - Wizzard, The Move, early ELO. This is my second copy of this pressing and both have sounded like this.

Roll over Beethoven is shortened by about 30 seconds at the coda. (U.S. 8 track tape)

My copy's dead wax matches this exactly except there are no plant ID numbers, lightly etched or otherwise,

I bought this album (or at least a variant of it) with 82796 94277 2 on the CD. On my version, "Roll Over Beethoven" (track 3) is 7:04, not 8:10. The booklet in the CD listed the track length at 8:10.

The sound of this release is particulary distorted, not recommended at all, but I like the miscentered "black hole" galaxy here in the single sleeve, losing the female "open legs" effect of the original gatefold.

This Can pressing (Jet) is quite good but why does it go for more than the original UA gatefold Can release? Is the UA pressing bad?

Mine is similar to this pressing, but side B label has no text at all.

The tracklist in this issue was bad. In Spain, the First ELO album wasn't released, but its stronger song ("10538 OVERTURE") was exchanged with the first of the original ELO 2 álbum ("In old England town") by EMI-ODEON SPAIN, this, the first song here is "10538 OVERTURE" (with weird custom lyric translation, by the way). You can also notice a little different font in the titles...
