Loved going around Dyker Heights. It was so festive and you could definitely feel the Christmas spirit. I can only imagine how much of a headache it could be the residents though -- the traffic is kind of insane. But I guess at this point, traffic is part of the holidays now.

Saw this tour advertised before we left England, we booked a tour through our travel agent. It did not disappoint , if you love Christmas you will love this. The tour guide told us that most people pay up to 20,000 dollars to have their houses decorated by professionals. It's truly amazing, on the way back to the hotel the coach stopped at Brooklyn Bridge , so we could take photos of the manhatten skyline. I would highly recommend this tour,

A bit overrated
I went on Christmas day and it was packed, It will full of tour group
To be clear you do not have to do a tour group to, Its FREE. I went there via Car, Parking is scarce and was only able to leave it for a short time.
I live in NYC and its not really a big deal for me to get there, but Im not sure why a tourist would spend at least an hour each way on a bus or train to get there , when they have a limited amount of time, Lots of nice displays in Manhattan alot closer

It was such an amazing experience to stroll along Dyker Heights during Christmas time. It feels like being in a magical worlds where all the houses are illuminated and decorated with beautiful lights. Many house owners go extra miles to present the best decoration. It's truly beyond expectation. If you have time while visiting NY around Christmas, I would recommend to experience the tour that will take you to a fairy land.

We booked a city tour in New York to see the christmas lights in Brooklyn. It was the worst organised trip we have ever experienced. We arrived well ahead of time but despite being first there we were ushered off and on three different coaches in total chaos before getting on the very last bus. One of the employees of the tour company shouted and cursed at us and ruined our trip and we asked to be let off the coach and return on our own which was refused. Trip Advosor have just washed their hands of it after we spent hundred with them on this week away - never again - no support at all - they tell me that despite booking it through them it has nothing to do with them.

After reading lots of reviews we decided to get the subway and save a load of money! We were staying in upper west and it took approximately an hour either way. The walk from the subway to the area was really straightforward and took approx 15mins. We went on a Monday evening approx 6pm and it was great. A few tours but not too busy at all, I would hate to think what it would be like on a weekend or peak times. It was a fun thing to do.

A very nice place for large gatherings to meet up and have some fun, whether its with friends, family, or strangers. Also they have some free to use grilling equipment that many try to come early and use. Last time I was there it was surprisingly crowded so def make sure you dont mind the extra people.

Booked a Christmas lights tour to Dyker Heights through Get Your Guide. I had no idea how amazing the experience would be. Enrico was a fantastic guide who was so friendly, gave us information on NYC on the way to Brooklyn (which we appreciated as tourists) and made us feel like we were taken care of throughout. The Christmas lights at Dyker Heights completely exceeded our expectations - the perfect suburban neighborhood where almost all the houses were decorated for Christmas. If you love Christmas time, this is the tour for you!!

If you are in Manhattan during December definitely worth a visit. We got the subway over then had a 10 minute walk. The houses were amazing and so many were decorated. So glad we went!
Personally I wouldn't waste money booking a tour. We saw lots of them walking around but we enjoyed doing it at our own pace without being rushed.

We heard about the Dyker Heights lights on the local news while we were visiting New York and decided to drop by. We took public transportation from Manhattan to Dyker Heights and then took our own tour on foot. We used a few suggestions from a few websites that both highlighted the best-decorated houses and mentioned a few details of each of these houses which made this much more than just a sightseeing expedition. Quite a few houses were extremely well done and a few were definitely "over the top"!

We are thinking about visiting Brooklyn in December and wanted to see the Dyker Heights lights. What's the best way to view them? Are there tours that will drive you there and then you walk around? If so, can you recommend a good company?

We went with Slice of Brooklyn. They pick up in Union Square and do a guided tour.A couple of stops in addition to stopping by Dyker Heights. You then are dropped off back at UNion Square. We enjoyed it !!
