Widespread Panic brought their three-night run during Austin City Limits festival at The Moody Theater in Austin, last night Oct. 10. The run was rescheduled five times previously and the band was clearly more than excited to share their sound with the live music loving city.
Widespread opened their set with a cover of Tom Wait’s track “Goin’ Out West” > “Rock.” They then played “Down” and “Heroes” which hasn’t been heard from the band since 2018. The soulful vocals and deep blues riffs continued through the first set. As the sound crescendoed listeners found themselves in new waters. Widesprad debuted their cover of ZZ Top’s iconic track “Tush” in honor of the late Dusty Hill.
Widespread jammed for 82 minutes for their second set with a mulange of original tracks and covers from BloodKin, brute. and The Guess Who. They flowed from “Driving Song” > “No Sugar Tonight / New Mother Nature” > “Driving Song,” and “Tie Your Shoes” > “Jam” > “Protein Drink / Sewing Machine” to close.
They encored for 26 minutes over three tracks including a cover of The Talking Heads’ “Heaven.” They closed with “Blackout Blues.”
