Steuben County’s Rock And Roll HOFer Turns 86 Friday

Last weekend it was announced that Rochester’s Lou Gramm will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with his band Foreigner later this year. But did you know that a Steuben County native is already a member of the Hall of Fame?

Duane Eddy was born 86 eyears ago today in Corning. The Grammy award winner was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, the Musicians Hall of Fame in 2008, and the Steuben County Hall of Fame in 2020. Eddy is called the pioneer of the “Twang” sound. His His breakthrough hit “Rebel-‘Rouser” sold over 3 million copies. In 1958 his album “Have Twangy Guitar Will Travel” sold over 6 million copies, and stayed on the charts for 82 weeks.

In his first promotional biography, it was written, “Perhaps the town of Corning, New York is unaware that rock & roll star, Duane Eddy, was born there in 1938.” Throughout his career, Eddy promoted his time in Corning, Bath, Penn Yan and the surrounding areas.

Eddy still records today and currently lives with his wife Deed in Tennessee.
