Produktbeschreibungen

Ganz normale Film.
Keine Spannung .
Flotte Lieferung.

Then new kid turns up and saves a life on his first day and then starts to steal Len’s thunder. This is Phil – Jack Mathews of ‘Neighbours’ fame. Phil is also gay and on a drunken night out things come to a head – no pun intended. Len is jealous of and apparently both attracted and repelled by this new man. The problem is the old adage of ‘in vino veritas’ hangs true – but not everyone can accept their truths.
Now this is just excellent; Matt Levett as Len is exceptional as the troubled sports star and brings a menace to the screen that is tempered by the fear and loathing that make up his complex character. As Quentin Crisp said ‘some roughs are pretty queer and some queers are pretty rough’ this can certainly be applied to Len. The use of editing is brilliant and adds to the immediacy of the whole piece. There is a constant throb of homo eroticism that intermingles with the ordinariness of what is actually happening and juxtaposes all the emotions that the players are going through.
The cinematography is truly brilliant too and that is by Dean Francis who co-edited; so I hope to see more good stuff from him. Please don’t get me wrong, this is a hard watch in places and is painfully visceral when it needs to be; but I really appreciate cinema that pushes the boundaries – can illicit emotion and leaves you feeling that you have seen something special – absolutely recommended.
Anyway, I digress, this film is basically about a 'macho' guy who is exceptionally in denial about his feelings. He's top dog amongst a crowd of lifeguards who apart from running around all day in peedos spend the evening getting totally wasted on alcohol. The person here is called Lenny, played by Matt Levett. He is so far in a closet, inside a closet inside another closet. He'll never 'come out'. He knows he wants physical contact with another man, but finds it easier instead to beat the hell out of them...which he does. He has a best friend who was happy as a teenager to show Lenny his penis and as a consequence Lenny gives him the nickname 'Meat'. I'll say no more. It's evident that Meat has an obsession with Lenny and hero worships him. It's pretty evident too that Meat is extremely physically attracted to Lenny and will do anything to be his mate. Into this mix comes the very handsome Phil who is homosexual. Lenny spots him kissing his boyfriend one day. (As an aside I did think it strange that Phil wiped his lips when he was kissed by his boyfriend??) Anyway, these are the main characters in the story. It has a lot of flashbacks between what has happened since the arrival of Phil and what is currently happening to him. That's pretty easy to deal with though. I like Matt Levett, although I felt he was a bit OTT sometimes as the totally repressed homosexual/bi sexual. He's quite an unlikeable character...although we discover that it's the fault of his father who taught him to be a 'proper man' when he was young Ain't that always the way!!! If you like lots of muscular men running around in skimpy speedos on a golden Australian beach, then this film's for you. It's easy to understand, but doesn't explore the problems of repressed sexual feelings. As entertainment it's okay and I've certainly seen far worse.
The storyline itself is a typical ‘straight guy can’t deal with his gay feelings and takes it out on the gay guy whilst secretly liking him’ type of jazz. Set in the lifeguard industry it could have been a great take on an overdone idea. Unfortunately the story telling is so disjointed and the narrative is all over the place, so you have no idea which point in the timeline you are. Plus the actions of the ‘straight’ guy is so over the top that it’s hard to believe and all the cast seem to do is shout the entire time. Don’t get me started on the ending either.
This could have been a great film but ended up being a very disjointed collection of almost good ideas. So it gets two stars on intention alone but it’s just a shame that it’s let down by bad editing and direction.
