Six years after finalizing her divorce from Will Kopelman, Drew Barrymore says she is officially back on the market.

In the past, the talk show host explained that she took her divorce "really hard" and felt like she wasn't ready to open herself back up to love again. But on Thursday's episode of The Drew Barrymore Show during a conversation with Whoopi Goldberg, Barrymore revealed that she's dipping her toe back in the dating pond after realizing she's grown a little too comfortable being all by herself. “The last time you were here, we both were single. You weren’t dating. Are you dating now?” she asked the actor before confessing that she has started going on dates again. She added, “Because it had been so many years, I started to get a little worried, like I’m too good at being alone.”

The View co-host said that she still isn't looking for a serious relationship, but she did offer Barrymore some wise words of advice about her own romantic endeavors. “Maybe a hit-and-run is a better way to go, for now, until you say to yourself, ‘Now I really want someone to just be part of this,'” Goldberg suggested. “Right now, that may not be what you’re looking for, which is probably why you’re doing fine.”

Barrymore and her husband of four years with whom she shares two daughters — 10-year-old Olive and 8-year-old Frankie — decided to go their separate ways in 2016. Since then, the Never Been Kissed star said in a blog post from October, she has “not been able to have an intimate relationship.” She went on to explain, “I have had the honor and a pleasure to actually work on myself and learn what parenting is, again something I was not exactly clear on growing up and I’ve had many learning curves thrown my way. I’ve been intimidated. I’ve been triumphant. I’ve been asked to be educated in every way I can be.” Barrymore added, “I am just in a completely different place in my life and maybe in the near future I will get into a relationship…but it simply hasn’t been my priority. So I’m not a person who needs sex and has to go out there and engage with people on that level. I am someone who is deeply committed to fostering how young girls, my daughters, and myself as a woman, are supposed to function in this world!”

The former actress was also previously married to producer Jeremy Thomas from 1994 to 1995 and comedian Tom Green from 2001 to 2002. In September 2020, Barrymore told her guest Jane Fonda that she's tried out a couple of dating apps since her divorce, but has been “swearing off men” for the last five years. Fonda retorted, however, that just because the talk show host is swearing off men doesn't mean she can't “squeeze a little affair or two in there.”
