Downey High School Reviews

I love Downey High School’s preparations for students who strive to go to college. They genuinely seem interested in having any and every student be able to attend and graduate from a college. They do this by introducing the idea of taking Ap classes, having meetings about college attendance, and by having actual alumni and counselors explain the intricacies of colleges. Despite this, the school advocating for student’s attendance in college, should also advocate for more accesible extracurriculars. As many know, extracurriculars are super important for college apps, but from my experience, applying for an extracurricular is just as hard.
Downey High School provides excellent academics and plenty of opportunities for students to learn. The extracurriculars are available for everyone and community service hours are always encouraged. However, I would like the school to do better in keeping students involved and updated with events and schedules.
I love the overall environment of the school as it is welcoming and encourages students to learn and prepare for their future. The teachers are very helpful and push students to try their best, resulting in an overall betterment of students for their future which I appreciate. The emphasis on clubs and school activities is superb as there are events like "club rush" to promote different clubs and encourage students to join, resulting in more involved students. However, the school has a major problem with students vaping in the bathroom. It is bad for the students vaping as they start an addiction at a young age that could negatively affect their health for the rest of their lives, and it is also bad for all the other students who just want to use the restroom. I have heard several students complain about the vaping as they cannot go to the restroom in peace, most avoiding restrooms where it is especially prevalent or just not using school restrooms at all.
