And that band included Bob Dylan, who not only shares vocals on three tunes but contributes a song (`Wallflower') that was yet to appear on any of his albums! Yet, this album only reached #125 on the 1972 charts; perhaps America wasn't quite ready for Doug's twisted Texas vision of roots rock. テキサスのアーティスト、ダグサームが７３年にアトランティックレコードから出したアルバム。この頃はカントリーロックといわれる新しいジャンルの音楽が出始め、その勢いに乗せようとプロデューサーがダグサームと契約し、豪華ゲストを迎え、作られたもの。（ゲストはドクタージョンやボブディラン）
音を聞いていると、確かにカントリーの音はしているのだが、そのリズムやグルーヴはロックである。この時代、他のアーティストが出したいろいろなカントリーロックのアルバムと比べると、これが一番わかりやすい形でカントリーロックというものになっていると思う。
カントリーが好きな人も、ロックが好きな人も、カントリーロックというものがどんなものか理解するには、おあつらえ向きのアルバムじゃないかと思います。参加ミュージシャンたちの仲もよさそうで、楽しげな音が伝わってきます。

Very enjoyable album. Really The Sir Douglas Quintet with whoever was lucky enough to be able to join in on the session. Sounds like they were having a blast in the studio. Love the 'gold' vinyl; actually clear orange, but very cool and it looks great on my turntable.

This is an astonishing and wonderful album, that must have been great fun to make. It radiates such a good atmosphere that would make any party with it a doubtless success. The Doug Sahm fans for sure already revere the album since a long time, but this album should also be in the collection of anyone appreciating Dylan and bluesy folk rock, and has not been too well known by many of them I guess. As already written by other reviewers Dylan contribute to and participate in the album (Wallflower is also the name of Dylan's son Jacob 's band). I hope Dylan will ever review his memories of the event with Dough & Band in a future volume of his Chronicles. The reason for writing this review is, except for the 5 stars that the album really deserves, that a lot of detailed information on the vinyl album is omitted on the CD sleeve, so I like to add it here

How was this album not a smash hit upon release, and why is it still so little-known to this day? Doug Sahm & Band is a tour de force and a high point of his career. As great as some of the Sir Douglas Quintet material was, it often suffered from indifferent/sloppy recording, and the musicianship, though heartfelt and spirited, was not always top-notch. No problem with that here. An all-star lineup, well-chosen song selections, great performances by the various musicians, and beautifully recorded. All-star collaborations often end up being disappointing messes, but everyone must have been in a high level of inspiration for this recording date. And the music is timeless, sounding like it could have been recorded yesterday. In spite of any of Sahm's subsequent successes, one wonders what course his career would have taken if the general public had embraced the sound he created for Doug Sahm & Band. To the late Doug Sahm, wherever you are, thanks for all the beautiful music.

When this Record was released in 1972, this one was gonna be the ONE. Sir. Doug was now on a Major Record Label, and they were marketing this Album big time. Doug had been a performer, songwriter and all around Wiz-Kid since the late 1950's. The Sixties had been very kind to Doug when he left Texas and set up camp in Swingin' San Francisco. Every Dance party in America had: "She's About A Mover" on that pile of 45's right along side: "Louie, Louie" & "Satisfaction"...Doug Sahm WAS the party for a bunch of us. This was a Good-Time Boy who grew up in the shadow of the Alamo, who was now partying with Dylan, Lennon & Garcia, and Doug was enjoying every minute of the party.

In 1969, Bob Dylan's record: "Nashville Skyline" shocked a few folks because Dylan had done the impossible, he had made Country Music...Cool.
Doug was signed to Atlantic Records by Jerry Wexler, because Wexler, knew that Doug was the Goods. Here in this one Artist was Country, Tex-Mex, R & B, Folk, Blues and Rock, all in one lanky Texian that could play and sing up a storm. Doug was gonna be the next BIG THING, and this Record was to be the Springboard to Huge Arenas, Private Jets and $$$.

With some good friends joining Doug on this record, {Dr. John, Bob Dylan, T-Bone Walker and David Bromberg} and some real nice tunes: {"Is Anybody Going To San Antone","It's Gonna Be Easy", "Papa Ain't Salty" & "Blues Stay Away from Me"}. This LP could have been a major seller, but it didn't strike Gold with the Record buyers. The playing is wonderful, and many Musical Styles are imployed herein. As always; Doug's pal, Augie Meyer is onboard playing Piano and Organ. You can here Bob's Harp on a few tracks and Doug's fiddle is tasty as it always sounds.

Doug Sahm is American Royalty, a Musical Dynomo who would join you at the bar for a long-neck and a funny story. This Man enjoyed hie Life, and his Great Music reflects that Joy. When you hear the Music of Sir Doug Sahm you are gonna smile. This is great American Music. Doug was an: "One-Off" as guys like him don't come around very often. If you want to hear one of his best Records, here you go..."Doug Sahm & Band".

Have heard several songs on here since 1973 but never knew just how good this entire cd was until I purchased it in 2012. Doug Sahm and his band were having a great time and playing some of the best dirty blues ever recorded. Mix in some tex-mex, country and Louisianna flavors and you have one of the strongest cd's from top to bottom that you will ever put in your player. I'm just sorry I didn't buy this back in 73.
