On December 29, 2022, the legendary Brazilian soccer player Pele passed away from various organ breakdowns. He was 82-years-old when he passed away and was recently mourned by his wife, kids, and mom, Celeste Arantes. Interestingly, Pele’s mother recently surpassed 100 past month.

The home where Pele’s 100-year-old mother, Celeste Arantes, still resides was driven by during the burial march for the legendary Brazilian football player on Tuesday. Pele recently passed away the previous week at the age of 82. Pele’s mother did not always support her son’s decision to play football. This was because Dondinho, Pele’s dad, suffered a meniscal injury to his knee whilst performing in football for the Sao Paulo team.

Pele recalled in an interview, “My mother used to say when I was young, ‘Do you see your father?  He didn’t play well, he has a problem (injury). You must be a teacher or a doctor, don’t play soccer.” On November 16, 1996, Dondinho, 79 years old, passed away. Pele previously shared a social media message about Celeste, who is still living at the age of 100.

Who is Pele’s mother?

Celeste, Pele’s mom, was birthed on November 20, 1922, in Tres Coracoes. On October 23, 1940, she delivered birth to Pele. Pele’s mother was thus less than a month off from turning 18 at the time of his birth. She had two more children, Zoca and Maria Lucia Nascimento. Celeste was born in the Brazilian city of Tres Coracoes in 1922, but her family relocated to Bauru, a population of roughly 400,000 people when Pele was a child.

Celeste made Pele a trip in the run-up to the 1966 World Cup, visiting him at a training session outside Rio de Janeiro before his team traveled to England for the competition. She resided in her later years in the Sao Paulo district of Santos, wherein her boy flourished as a player from 1956 and 1974.

She even has seven grandkids from Pele, notably Celeste, a girl conceived in 1996. Despite her opposition to Pele’s footballing ambition due to what occurred to Dondinho, she acknowledged Pele’s potential. Celeste backed him up in his decisions. She was also named O Globo’s Brazilian Mother of the Year for her bond with her kid.

Celeste, Pele’s mother, celebrated her 100th birthday on November 20th. The late Brazilian football great uploaded three photos of himself and his mother on social media along with a happy birthday greeting. Pele captioned the photos on his Instagram, “Today, we celebrate 100 years of Dona Celeste’s life. From a young age, she taught me the value of love and peace. I have well over a hundred reasons to be thankful for being her son. I share these photos with you, with great emotion to celebrate this day. Thank you for every day by your side, Mom.”

Does Pele’s mother know that the football legend has died?

Celeste Arantes, Pelé’s mum, has been a centenarian since November 20 and is unaware of her son’s tragedy since “she is in her own little world,” her daughter explains calmly. The burial parade of Pele that proceeded through Santos roads to the graveyard passed directly across the street from her home. “She opens her eyes when I mention his name and says, ‘we’re going to pray for him’, but she’s not conscious of what I’m saying. We talk together (…) She is fine, even if she is in her own little world (…) But aware (of the death of her son Edson), she is not”, stated Maria Lucia via ESPN on Friday.
