What Will These Doctor Who Season 14 Episodes Be About

Doctor Who Plot Details Are Still Under Wraps

While the Doctor Who season 14 trailer revealed some of the storylines that will be coming in the new season, plot details are still thin on the ground. However, these episode titles, as well as the animated graphics shared in the announcements, offer a modicum of insight into what these new storylines might entail. For one thing, it seems that this season will be leaning in on the horror genre in quite a few episodes, following in the footsteps of one of the most iconic Davies-era episodes, "Blink."

"Blink," which introduced the Doctor Who villains the Weeping Angels, was written by Steven Moffat.

Episodes that have horror-inflected titles or imagery include "Space Babies," which seems to show a monster infiltrating a nursery, "The Devil's Chord," and the final episode "Empire of Death." The design for the "Rogue" announcement also seems to line up with the previously revealed storyline involving the Doctor and Ruby exploring the Regency era. It seems unclear which episodes will contain the scenes from the trailer set in the 1960s, as either the bomb shelter-inflected "Boom" or the retro television-inspired "Dot and Bubble" could fulfill that premise.

There will also be a storyline set in the age of dinosaurs, though no title but perhaps "Empire of Death" would seem to be a clear-cut indication of when in the season that might take place. Beyond that, the episode "73 Yards" seems to take place at a remote pub or inn while "The Legend of Ruby Sunday" may take place in a television studio, perhaps in a twisted version of a "This Is Your Life" style presentation. While there are still many mysteries about what adventures are coming soon for the new Doctor Who cast, these announcements have their fair share of intrigue.

Doctor Who is available to stream on Max and on BBC One and BBC iPlayer for viewers in the UK and Ireland. Doctor Who season 14 will stream on Disney+ and BBC iPlayer.

Originally premiered in 1963, Doctor Who is a sci-fi series that follows a powerful being known as a Time Lord, referred to as the Doctor. Using an interdimensional time-traveling ship known as the TARDIS, the Doctor travels time and space with various companions as they solve multiple problems and help avert catastrophe as much as they almost cause it. Though the Doctor is always the same character, they experience regenerations, allowing them to be recast every few seasons as a unique immortal being with new personality traits.
