"Who are you in this vast multiverse?"
The exact nature of the alternate universe this article's subject belongs to has not been fully explained yet, therefore a placeholder name has been chosen in order to separate its information from its main counterpart.

"In the grand calculus of the Multiverse, your sacrifice is worth more than your—"
―Doctor Strange to America Chavez[src]

Doctor Stephen Vincent Strange, M.D., Ph.D. was the Sorcerer Supreme of the Master of the Mystic Arts. He aided the Multiverse-traveling America Chavez in escaping the forces that were hunting her, leading them both to the Gap Junction in search of the legendary Book of Vishanti. Pursued through the Junction by a Ribboned Creature, Strange attempted to sacrifice America for the greater good, but was subsequently killed by the monster before he could do so. His corpse ended up in another universe, where it was later used by the Doctor Strange of that reality to dreamwalk and confront Scarlet Witch.

Biography[]

Sorcerer Supreme[]

Early Life[]

"Were they together?"
"No, they didn't talk anymore. He blew it."
"Of course."
Doctor Strange and America Chavez[src]

Stephen Strange was a Master of the Mystic Arts who became the Sorcerer Supreme of his universe. Strange was in love with Christine Palmer, but they were unable to be together. He also deducted that dreams are actually visions of a person's Multiversal selves.[1]

Aiding America Chavez[]

"We can't let it take your power. Get to the book."
"How do we get across?"
"Jump."
―Doctor Strange and America Chavez[src]

Strange encountered the universe hopping entity America Chavez, who was being pursued by a malevolent force across the Multiverse for her power. Strange agreed to help keep her safe, and the two spent some time together, ultimately becoming friends. He also explained his theory about the true nature of dreams to her. They eventually learned about the Book of Vishanti, said to grant a sorcerer whatever power they required to defeat their enemy. With that in mind, Strange and Chavez travelled to the Gap Junction, where the Book could be found.

Strange and America Chavez run in the Gap Junction

Their journey eventually led them across the Multiverse to the Gap Junction, where the pair were chased by a powerful and relentless Ribboned Creature, forcing them to swiftly navigate the bizarre terrain of the Junction to avoid it. While running along a trailing floor, Strange noticed the Creature getting closer, so he shot icy spells at it a froze it in ice. Speaking in Spanish, Chavez asked if that killed the Creature, but Strange pointed to the Book's location on a platform of terrain, which would help them kill it.

Reaching the end of the trail, they both leaped onto a gigantic floating horizontal pillar and slid down onto a safe platform. The Creature suddenly rose through the floor in front of them, blocking the way. A strike from the monster pierced Strange's right leg, causing great pain. He utilized his Eldritch Magic to launch debris around him at the Creature and then trapped it under a ball of rubble with a binding spell. Strange was straining as he attempted to hold the ball together, but the Creature was too strong he could not hold it. Additionally, the wound on his leg caused his flesh there to sear, hurting him.[1]

Failed Sacrifice and Death[]

"I can't let that thing take your power. You can't control it, but I can."
―Doctor Strange to America Chavez[src]

The Ribboned Creature was starting to break free, so Strange, fearing that the Multiverse would not be safe with the power of Multiversal travel in the hands of a child, decided that he needed to take the power for himself, even though doing so would surely kill America Chavez. He took a glance at Chavez and apologized since this was supposedly the only way before levitating her to draw her power out from her, much to her horror. Strange explained that he could not let the Creature obtain her power and she could not control it, but he could.

Chavez cried out that they were friends and that he was killing her, so the sorrow-filled Strange responded in the vast Multiverse, her sacrifice would be worth far more than her life. Before Strange could complete the spell or even his sentence, one of the Creature's tendrils broke through and impaled him through the chest, lifting him high into the air and breaking the spell. The Creature then scarred his face before dropping him aside.

Strange gets inhaled by America Chavez's portal

Still clinging to life, Strange was being inhaled into a portal opened by Chavez, and he casted Eldritch constructs to cut some of the Creature's tendrils to free Chavez from its grasps. Chavez and the gravely injured Strange were pulled into the series of portals, and they landed on a New York City building in another universe. Unfortunately, Strange did not survive the trip as he died from his wounds, so Chavez covered up his body with a carpet and departed to explore this new reality.[1]

Legacy[]

Buried in Another Reality[]

"Somewhere out there I had a ponytail."
Doctor Strange[src]

After America Chavez met the prime reality's Doctor Strange and Wong, they ate in a pizza restaurant, where Chavez mentioned her former friend Strange's title as Sorcerer Supreme, as well as his betrayal. To prove that prime Strange's dream was real, Chavez brought the pair to the building where Defender Strange's body was hidden. Wong uncovered it, surprising himself and Strange while Chavez was upset about her former friend's attempt to kill her. Strange realized that dreams were Multiversal glimpses and noted how his alternate counterpart had his hair tied in a ponytail.

Chavez recoiled from Strange after he mentioned how her powers were dangerous in the hands of an adolescent, reminding her of her Strange's decision. Strange assured her to trust him as she grew weary of him possibly betraying her. After Wong asked what to do with the alternate Strange's corpse, Strange used magic to open a ground made from bricks, cover up his Variant's body, and levitated it inside as a grave. Wong remarked that would be a building violation, but Strange admitted that he had buried worse.

After Strange and Chavez landed in Earth-838, the former snapped at her for not being able to control her powers, mentioning how he himself could. This frightened Chavez as this made her remember Strange's betrayal, so Strange apologized. They also began referring to Strange as "Other Me" or "Other You". While walking through New York City, Chavez and Strange discussed the deceased Strange, including how he could not be with his Christine Palmer.[1]

Corpse Reanimated[]

"But doesn't a version of you need to live in that universe, so that you can dreamwalk into them?"
"Who said they had to be living?"
Christine Palmer and Doctor Strange[src]

Despite his death, Strange's use had not run dry. When the prime Doctor Strange needed to return to his own universe to confront Scarlet Witch, who had taken America Chavez, he was forced to dreamwalk as he was unable to directly return home without Chavez. Strange dreamwalked into the corpse of Defender Strange, and used it to travel to Mount Wundagore. On the journey, the spirits of the damned confronted the form, as Strange had used the forbidden spells of the Darkhold in order to possess the dead.

Despite the spirits' attempts to stop him, Strange instead drew them into the zombified body of Defender Strange, and was able to fly directly to the mountain to confront Maximoff. In their fight, Maximoff scarred the corpse of Defender Strange, leaving it virtually immobile and melting away. When Scarlet Witch was defeated, Strange abandoned the body of Defender Strange where it lay, and it was crushed under the collapsing temple atop the mountain.[1]

Personality[]

"I'm so sorry. This is the only way."
―Doctor Strange to America Chavez[src]

Strange was shown to be protective of America Chavez at first, helping her to evade the monsters pursuing her. However, Strange was also pragmatic, understanding that the fate of the Multiverse was risky in Chavez's hands and was willing to kill her if it meant keeping the wider Multiverse safe. He ultimately viewed Chavez as insignificant in the face of the endless Multiverse, and arrogantly considered himself a far better candidate for hosting her power. In his last moments, Strange still fought to free Chavez from the monster, despite being aware he was in no condition to host her power, and was willing to leave her fate up to chance in freeing her.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

"Other You was Sorcerer Supreme of his universe."
America Chavez to Doctor Strange[src]
  • Magic: As the Sorcerer Supreme of his reality, Strange possessed an extremely high level of sorcery.
    • Eldritch Magic: Strange was able to shape and manipulate Eldritch Magic, forming tangible constructs of energy, such as weapons or shields, as well as cast spells by writing specific formations with the fiery energy. However, unlike Eldritch Magic used by Doctor Strange from Earth-616, this Strange's Eldritch Magic was blue and white instead of orange.
      • Spell Casting:
        Strange Blue Magic

        Strange attacking the Ribboned Creature

Strange was able to cast spells by writing specific formations with the Eldritch Magic's fiery energy. While jumping from one rock to another with America Chavez while escaping from the Ribboned Creature, Strange was able to create two Tao Mandalas under his feet that soften his landing, and used a spell to temporarily freeze the creature. After trapping the creature in a circular prison of rocks, Strange was able to reinforce this prison by using an energy construct around the circle of rocks. Strange later fired blue energy constructs at the creature in order to save America.
    • Telekinesis: Strange was able to manipulate several rocks to first hit the Ribboned Creature and then trap it in a rock prison which he then reinforced with an energy construct. Later, Strange levitated Chavez in the air in an attempt to siphon her power.
    • Power Absorption: Strange could use his magic to absorb the powers of other individuals and creatures into himself. He would have taken America Chavez's power if not for the Ribboned Creature.

Abilities[]

"It wasn't a dream. That means... dreams are windows into the lives of our multiversal selves."
"That was his theory."
Doctor Strange and America Chavez[src]
  • Genius-Level Intellect: Doctor Strange was a highly intelligent individual, being gifted in the mystic arts enough to earn the title of Sorcerer Supreme. He was also the first one to correctly theorize that dreams are actually glimpses into the lives of multiversal variants.
  • Master Physician: To be added
  • Bilingualism: To be added
