Gitau has now scored four goals in the last five PL2 matches from right wing back for Middlesbrough

In a PL2 clash that took place on Friday evening, Harambee Stars prospect George Gitau showcased his talent by finding the back of the net for Middlesbrough U21s, but it wasn't enough to prevent a defeat against Crystal Palace.

Despite the loss, Gitau's impressive form has caught the eye, putting him in contention for a promotion to Michael Carrick’s first team.

The match began with visiting Palace asserting their dominance, taking the lead within six minutes as midfielder Justin Devenny curled in a free-kick past Middlesbrough's goalkeeper.

Palace extended their advantage on the half-hour mark when a trialist capitalized on a loose ball in the area to double their lead.

Middlesbrough had opportunities to claw their way back into the game, with Bryant Bilongo pulling one back just before halftime with a well-placed strike.

Captain Jack Hannah squandered a chance to level the scores early in the second half, but Gitau soon restored parity with a sensational long-range effort, marking his fourth goal in five matches.

Inspite of Gitau's heroics, Palace delivered the final blow with another goal from the trialist, securing the victory. The match was characterized by end-to-end action as both teams sought a winner, but it was Palace who emerged triumphant in the end.

Despite the defeat, Middlesbrough's youngsters can look forward to the PL2's end-of-season play-offs, although the result means they will face an away trip in the single-round elimination stages in May.

Gitau's consistent performances have undoubtedly bolstered his credentials for a place in Michael Carrick’s first team squad, as he continues to make strides in his footballing career.
