- Bob CFenton, Missouri72 contributionsLots of Interesting Zoo AnimalsDickerson Park Zoo is a smaller zoo, but that doesn't make it any less interesting than others. It has a nice variety of zoo animals from around the world and even has exhibits of animals often found right in the state of Missouri. Nice place for a leisurely walk through both shaded and open areas where you can see the animals up close. The only downside to our visit was that the elephants weren't out, but it was still an enjoyable visit.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 July 2023

My wife really loved feeding the giraffes. Especially the baby. We have been there twice and it was fun.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 31 July 2023

Went for a weekend day to enjoy the sunshine and sights. The kids had a blast and loved all the different animal exhibits. Will return and recommend a pass for families that love animals!

Out of all the zoos that I've visited in my 69 years this is the worst! Depressing enclosures and the animals even looked depressed. This zoo is a blight on Springfield.

It was cute, little messy- cages and greens were not super maintained. Lots of poop everywhere in the cages and on the walkways, lots of weeds and overgrown areas. It was alright, the kids had fun.

It was a nice zoo. We did really enjoy getting to see the elephants and feeding the giraffes. So, if you're in the area and you like zoos, I can recommend going......But whatever you do, DON'T ride the train! It was a total waste of money! All you do is ride around in a circle twice and look at what seems to be the sewage pond. We think the ducks were laughing at us as we went around. :-)

This is nice zoo with polite staff. As an adult who's been to bigger zoos this was ok but not impressive. As for my kiddos under 10 they loved it. It took us about 2 hours to walk it all except the reptile house (too scary for mama & kiddos) ;) Most of the animals were either napping or eating. The otters and giraffes were the more lively ones! Also all of the water fountains have been shut off so you better bring your own water to drink or buy some at their cafe. Now for lunch the Country Cafe in the zoo is way overpriced as far I'm concerned. We had 3 kids meals and 1 hot dog meal, and 1 personal pan pizza all for over $60! Ouch! You eat outside next to the playground of screaming kids ;) All and all kids enjoyed it but we probably won't come back.

We loved feeding the giraffes and seeing them so close up. The splash area and the train could use some improvement. Overall it is a nice zoo and we had a great day.

How much does it cost
Reviewer1Missouri

I believe it was 15.00 for adults, 12.00 for seniors. Don't know the children admissions.
Can we bring a cooler into the park to eat lunch? If we go out side zoo to eat do we have to pay again?

I am not sure about bringing food in, but if you go out they will place a mark on your hand so you can return.

Is there a petting area for young children?
CRodden

Yes. It's a small area. Mostly goats. There's food you can purchase from a machine. The giraffes are not part of the petting zoo-however, you may purchase items in that area to feed the giraffes.
My granddaughter loves to feed the giraffes. Take a few extra dollars to feed the giraffe.
