WILMINGTON — A Wilmington man who ran for mayor in 2019 — and lost by roughly 600 votes — pleaded guilty in court Thursday to second-degree sexual offense.
Devon Scott was arrested in the summer of 2020 after he admitted publicly to physically assaulting and raping his wife in 2015.

In the New Hanover County Superior Court, Scott was ordered to have no contact with his wife unless it was to arrange visitation with their child.
He also will undergo 18 months of supervised probation and be required to do community service. His plea arrangement came with the agreement to register as a sex offender for 30 years.
Not only was Scott a strong contender in the last mayoral race, he was a local activist that founded Wilmington Advocacy And Protest Organization. He stepped away from WAPO after his wife came forward to share her story and admitted to the events first on social media and then to Port City Daily (follow the coverage above).
