According to The Knot Real Weddings Study, 18% of couples threw a destination wedding in 2022. But let's back up first: Isn't a destination wedding supposed to take place on a Mediterranean cypress-lined estate in Tuscany, Italy, or on a resort in the Bahamas? Sure, but how we define a destination wedding may change your perception. A destination wedding is anything that's held outside of a couple's hometown or where they currently reside. The majority of destination weddings, in fact, are hosted stateside, and to make it easy for you, we've outlined those best US wedding destinations and venues here. Those who threw international destination weddings last year also largely opted to marry close to home: 44% of weddings took place in Mexico, 18% were in the Caribbean and 20% were in Europe, all according to our data. Luxury wedding planner JoAnn Gregoli confirms this and more. "I'm seeing the top locations for destination weddings are Hawaii, Mexico, and Napa Valley, California. They're all still going very strong in the US," says Gregoli. "Newcomers in the US, however, include Maine, Newport, Rhode Island and Arizona. Globally, Italy still holds very strong. However, we are seeing requests for Spain and Greece taking a giant leap."
When a couple narrows down their list of places to get married, often the location is tied to sentiment. Among the 12,000-plus couples surveyed last year, nearly three out of five couples selected a locale because it was "interesting." Contrary to popular belief, only 15% said they would consider their location to be "tropical" while 9% said their wedding was held in a different country. It could be a repeat vacation destination for the family or a special getaway spot for the couple. A chosen destination may also be a bucket list locale or a more affordable option. (The average cost of a domestic destination wedding in 2022 was $36,400, while the average cost of an international destination wedding was $32,100.) Belize

Best time to travel to the USVI: Tourist season goes mid-December through mid-April, but temperature highs are in the mid-80s and lows are in the 70s year-round if you want to steer clear of the crowds. Just avoid hurricane season, which runs from June through November.
Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico's got all the assets of the other Caribbean islands—gorgeous beaches, friendly locals, plush resorts—plus one big one that sets it apart: It's a US territory. That means you and your guests will have few, if any, of the hassles associated with travel abroad. You won't need to go through customs, cell phone service is excellent and most people speak English.
