WHILE THEY ARE IN GOOD SHAPE, THE DISTRICT REPORTS IT’S STILL LOOKING TO FILL ABOUT 30 TEACHER OPENINGS. WHAT WE FOUND THAT IF SCHOOLS HAVE VACANCIES LEADING INTO THE SUMMER, THE LATER SUMMER MONTHS, JUNE, JULY AND EARLY AUGUST, OBVIOUSLY THAT IT’S A LOT HARDER FOR THOSE SCHOOLS TO FILL THAT POSITION. THE DISTRICT HOPING TO FILL THOSE VACANCIES AHEAD OF THE UPCOMING SCHOOL YEAR. OUR JOB BOARD KIND OF FLUCTUATES WITH HOW MANY OPENINGS ARE OPEN AT A TIME, BUT SPREAD OUT ACROSS 20 OR SO SCHOOLS. THAT’S ONLY ABOUT 1 OR 2 TEACHERS PER SITE. OUR SECOND BIGGEST OPENING RIGHT NOW IS FOR PARAPROFESSIONALS. THOSE TEACHER ASSISTANTS. AS FOR THE TEACHER CONTRACTS, IF PASSED BY THE SCHOOL BOARD AND UNION TEACHERS MAY GET AN INCREASE OF $85 PER YEAR OF VERIFIED EXPERIENCE UNDER THE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE SALARY ADJUSTMENT. THIS WOULD MAKE THE MARTIN COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT ONE OF THE HIGHEST PAYING DISTRICTS ON THE TREASURE COAST. The Martin County School District is going into its biggest hiring event of the year with confidence.“Thankfully, right now this year, we are in a better position going into next year in terms of staffing,” Derek Lowe, coordinator of public information for the Martin County School District, said.The district reports it is looking to fill about 30 teacher openings."What we found is that if schools have vacancies leading into the summer, later summer months, June, July, even early August, it’s a lot harder for those schools to fill that position," Lowe said.The district is hoping to fill those vacancies ahead of the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.“Our job board kind of fluctuates with how many openings there are at a time, but spread out across 20 or so schools, that’s only about one to two teachers per site. Our second biggest opening though is for paraprofessionals, teacher assistants,” he said.As for teacher contracts, if passed by the school board and union, teachers may get an increase of $85 per year of verified experience under the 'Years of Experience Salary Adjustment.'This would make The Martin County School District one of the highest-paying districts on the Treasure Coast.“Whether you think you have the educational background to work at school that is necessary or not, we encourage people to come out to our job fair Saturday and just see what we’re all about,” Lowe said.The Martin County School District Spring job fair is being held on Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Dr. David Anderson Middle School.Letters of intent to qualified applicants will be given out and interviews will also be done on-site.You can click here to register or get more information about the job fair.
