      Critics Consensus

Delgo features a blend of plot elements from earlier (and superior) fantasy films, with weaker animation and dull characters.

ana luisa u La animación es fea los personajes son feos la historia es aburridaaa y las batallas son horribles y humor es feo es un 2.6 de 10 Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/25/23 Full Review Adrian E One of the WORST animated films ever! 0.5/10 GARBAGE Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/08/23 Full Review Jesse A I'm thinking of going to fix the animation with the new story, human nose and face, and new race, and the sacrifice of delgo's parents with last words, the sacrifice of kyla's mother with last words, the sacrifice of bokardus with last words, and even kyla's 540 hook hick. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the worst animated movies ever made, Delgo stinks until his end. 1/10 Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member No. Just no. The story, the comedy, it's a no. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the most hotly debated bad movies as to just HOW bad it is, Delgo is definitely a really bad animated movie but you have to take into consideration the behind-the-scenes history. It's actually really interesting and it makes it rather sad to hear that the final product unfortunately wasn't very good. Delgo has its good qualities, believe it or not: the background animation is actually stunningly rendered, the voice actors do a surprisingly solid job, it tries to be a more serious animated movie rather than being a comedy and the action scenes aren't the best, compared to its higher-budget brethren, but they do come off with decent choreography for such a small budget. Then again, there has been an animated movie called Killer Bean Forever done on a budget that was cheaper than this movie which has really, really good action sequences, all done by one guy. But let's be honest, Delgo is still very, very bad. The character animation is stiff, the designs are horrifying, the plot reads like your basic fantasy story - all about execution - and the movie has its own personal Jar Jar Binks who's useless, barely contributes anything to the plot, has a grating voice, is despised even by people who like this movie and only exists to have the runtime just barely reach the 90-minute runtime that's expected from modern animated movies. It's kind-of disappointing that they didn't make this a 2D-animated movie, instead, seeing how interesting and decidedly less hideous, the end-credits concept art looked. This was independent, right? So, surely with enough convincing, Delgo could've been done in art style resembling the concept art? But alas, even though there is a good movie hiding somewhere in Delgo, what we unfortunately got was a cliched, predictable misfire whose most notable place in the history books is as one of the biggest animated box office flops of all time. Maybe I'll have thought more highly of it in an alternate reality where Delgo was critically acclaimed but in this reality? Sorry, guys, I admire your passions behind making this movie but it unfortunately failed to make an impact. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Jane Horwitz Washington Post Although the film may be too violent for kids younger than 10 and too storybook for teens, it is a tale of mythic pretensions and can be quite stunning. Dec 12, 2008 Full Review Claudia Puig USA Today The story is tedious, noisy and banal. It is also rather dark and convoluted for children, though it does have the familiar bombast of a video game. Rated: 1.5/4 Dec 12, 2008 Full Review Susan Walker Toronto Star This flick is like a cheap thriller where the wisecracks always fall flat and the author couldn't be bothered to invent a new plot, so he just patches together some old ones. Rated: 2/4 Dec 12, 2008 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com Who really cares? I sure didn't. Rated: 1.0/4.0 Sep 5, 2020 Full Review Mike Scott Times-Picayune A dull retread. ... Not even the film's easily enchanted target audience -- that is, children -- are likely to stay under the spell for long.
