DOVER, DE --Sophomore Jack Messmore had everything working on Friday, striking out 10 Sacred Heart hitters over seven innings of work to help lead the Delaware State Hornets past the Pioneers 6-5.

In addition to his 10 strikeouts, Messmore threw seven innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on six hits and walking one for Delaware State (13-17, ). Sophomore Nathan Vidmar also made an impact on the mound for the Hornets, throwing one scoreless inning while allowing no hits, with no walks and three strikeouts. Senior Wilfredo Mendez led the Hornets at the plate, going 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.

Trailing 1-0, the Hornets first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Senior Chris Amparo came across to score the lone run of the inning for Delaware State and get them on the board.

The Pioneers broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the seventh inning, when the Hornets got back on the scoreboard. Delaware State hit two home runs in the inning on the way to pushing four runs aross. which brought the Hornets lead to 5-2.

Sacred Heart then rallied to tie the ballgame at 5-5 before Delaware State walked it off in the bottom of the thirteenth on an RBI single off the bat of freshman Cameron Coco. Sacred Heart was led offensively by Peter Link, who went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run and an RBI. Jake McDowel led the Pioneers pitching staff, throwing 5.2 innings of one-run ball.
