Dead Ledger Nano S
My Nano S seems to have suddenly died. I have just gone to use it and it does not power on when connected to a USB port. Tried multiple cables in more than one PC. Anyone heard of experienced such an issue? I've only used it about 10 times I would imagine

Contact ledger support, they will likely replace it if it's under warranty
You will need your 24 word key to recover to a new device though. And I would highly reccomend changing your seed afterwards just in case
Thanks, I have contacted them and am waiting a response. Thankfully I had a spare Nano S which my gf had yet to configure so I was able to restore to that for now. Happy to see the restoration using the seed works as expected , I must admit I did feel very slightly anxious (even though I knew it should work), when running through the restore. Dissapointing it died in this way after such little use.
Thanks for the advice regarding changing the seed, didn't think to do this. I will do it, I'm assuming this is to be safe when sending the device back to them...?
Don't change the seed while your coins are on the ledger though of course or they will be lost, you'll need to move them to a different wallet temporarily
And yeah it should be fine as even if someone stole the ledger they would still need your PIN
So to recover your coins all you need is the 24 word key?
Does the 24 word key include all coins for Ledger wallet, like ETH, Ripple, LTC, etc?
Also who keeps track of the 24 word key?
Yes the 24 word key will restore all of your wallets
You should keep track of it. You should have written it down when you set up your ledger.
If anyone else gets your 24 word key they can have access to all your wallets
Correct.
Yes - The 24 word key aka "seed" is used to calculate all the private keys, from which the public keys (effectively; all the addresses for each coin) are derived, so yes it works for all the coins. Whether you get an address for BTC / LTC / XRP or whatever is determined by the app that you choose on the Ledger ie. BTC, LTC, etc ... and I guess to a lesser extent by the chrome app in the case of BTC / BCH and similar forks.... The app just has a slightly different mathematical algorithm to generate LTC addresses instead of BTC etc, but still uses the same seed / 24 word key, so they can all be restored.
Only YOU -- above is the reason it's so important that YOU keep it SAFE (so you can recover your coin), AND SECRET (so no one else can).
Lets say I lose my Ledger wallet, how can I recover my BTC/ATL coins without buying another Ledger wallet using my 24 word key?
Any compatible BIP 39 wallet will work.
I don't think that's possible unless you were able to get your private key.

Just in case
Of course its extremely unlikely, but if someone were to get that ledger, and the issue was say just a defective port (which is easily fixed) then they could potentially have access your wallets.
As I said, chances are next to nothing but always good to be 100% sure
how long is ledger s warranty
Ledger is based in France, so it is covered by EU's consumer protection rules. They stipulate a minimum of two years warranty for faulty goods.
I see.so they provide same warranty for international buyers too, right?
yes
What’s a seed. I mean I understand the 24word key but not the seed
Those are the "seed" words for the entire "tree" of cryptocurrencies/accounts that are derived from it. ;)
Makes sense. Been in bed three days sick. Think I’m loosing it
Same thing happened to me.
Interesting, I assume they just replaced it.
Did you check the Device Manager on your computer?
Maybe something's up with your USB ports and the device...
It's def dead. Multiple computers, multiple cables etc
Same thing happened to me, emailed support and got a ticket number but haven’t actually received a response since doing that 4 days ago.
How did it go? Did they changed it?
