Dead Boy Detetives is a supernatural series produced on Netflix as a spin-off to the Netflix adaptation of Neil Gaiman's The Sandman.[5][6] Loosely based on the characters of the same name from the Season of Mists arc of the graphic novel, set in the Sandman universe of the Netflix series, the series follows Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland unravel supernatural mysteries. Steve Yockey and Beth Schwartz serve as co-showrunners;[7] with Gaiman as executive producer along with Greg Berlanti, Jeremy Carver, and Sarah Schechter.[7] The series premiered on April 25, 2024.[8][9][1]
Synopsis[]
Do you have a pesky ghost haunting you? Has a demon stolen your core memories? You may want to ring the Dead Boy Detectives.
Meet Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri), "the brains" and "the brawn" behind the Dead Boy Detectives agency. Teenagers born decades apart who find each other only in death, Edwin and Charles are best friends and ghosts... who solve mysteries. They will do anything to stick together – including escaping evil witches, Hell and Death herself. With the help of a clairvoyant named Crystal (Kassius Nelson) and her friend Niko (Yuyu Kitamura), they are able to crack some of the mortal realm's most mystifying paranormal cases.
As part of The Sandman Universe for Netflix and based on the beloved comic series from Neil Gaiman, DEAD BOY DETECTIVES was developed for television by Steve Yockey, who serves as co-showrunner alongside Beth Schwartz and is brought to you by Greg Berlanti. Jeremy Carver and Sarah Schechter also serve as executive producers. The series also stars Jenn Lyon, Briana Cuoco, Lukas Gage, David Iacono and Ruth Connell.

Development[]
- On September 3, 2021, HBO Max ordered a pilot for Dead Boy Detectives.[15]
- On April 14, 2022, HBO Max picked up the pilot for an eight-episode series adaptation.[3]
- In April 2023, production for the first season finished.[16]
- On November 11, 2023, it was announced that the series and its production were moving to Netflix due to not fitting in HBO Max's new streaming direction.[17] Netflix also released a teaser trailer and synopsis for the series on the same day.[4]

- The series is the second live-action adaptation of the titular characters, following their guest appearance in Max's Doom Patrol.
