'If I could give you one bit of advice right now, it would be to take all the energy you're putting into fad diets and put it into becoming the most genuinely healthy version of you. If you've got a plan, you're already halfway there. And now you've got this book, you've got one.'
Davinia Taylor was overweight, depressed and unmotivated. She couldn't walk around the block, let alone go for a run or do an exercise class, and she struggled to keep up with her four young sons. In desperation she turned to biohacking to sort her head out - the unexpected bonus was that she lost nearly three stone and has kept it off for years through a series of health tricks from cold showers, to MCT oil, to ancestral eating.
She spent tens of thousands of pounds on specialists and Harley Street doctors, trying the most cutting-edge therapies available, only to discover that the true secrets of feeling amazing are very easy and affordable. Start with eating for your mental health, and weight loss is an effortless side effect.
Divided into four sections: Mood, Food, Movement and Rest, the book takes a holistic approach to weight loss, reminding you that true health is not just about what you eat. It's Not a Diet concludes with a two-week reset programme to put Davinia's advice into action easily and achievably.

Book Description
About the Author
Actress, fitness fanatic and health biohacker extraordinaire, Davinia's career started on C4's hit Soap Hollyoaks playing party girl Jude Cunningham. This led to film and television roles, as well as television presenting.
Davinia's heavily documented party lifestyle led to a dependency on alcohol, post-natal depression and a struggle to regain her pre-baby body after four children. But, after genetic testing, Davinia biohacked her way to optimum health, losing nearly three stone in six months, and keeping it off. She is currently studying to become a Personal Trainer and shares her story through public events and on her rapidly-growing Instagram (@daviniataylor).

About the author
Entrepreneur, Sunday Times Number 1 best-selling author, biohacking pioneer, mother of 4, weight loss expert and ex-Hollyoaks actress, Davinia Taylor, completely turned her life around from a ‘90’s & 00’s ladette lifestyle.
Discovering bio-hacking was the turning point in her journey, changing her attitude from “I’ll sleep when I’m dead” to one of optimum health and energy by feeding her brain; and her body followed with a weight loss of over 3 stone.
With over a million followers on Instagram @daviniataylor, she helps an ever-confused population crush cravings and achieve genuine wellbeing. Ever inquisitive, Davinia takes one for the team – sharing her discoveries and debunking myths with honesty and humour.
In her first book “It’s Not a Diet”, she turns dietary guidelines on their head and puts empowerment back in the hands of her followers so they can achieve sustained weight loss and improved mood, energy, and sleep quality. Counting chemicals instead of calories, eating good fats, cleaning out seed oils from your diet, avoiding low-fat foods, and ditching the sunglasses, are just a few of the accessible hacks Davinia is known for.
Her rapidly growing business, WillPowders, is changing the face of healthy supplements for all the family by developing premium, clean, effective supplements such as collagen and MCT Keto powder at high-street prices that can be used by all the family.
In 2023 Davinia is busier than ever. Her new podcast “Hack Your Health” was launched in February and the highly anticipated second book “Hack your Hormones” is published on 25th May 2023 (now available for pre-order).
Davinia continues to juggle being a mum of 4 boys, writing books, running and expanding a business, recording her podcast, being a popular media, event, podcast and Instagram live guest whilst remaining the UK’s leading female biohacker - continuing to experiment on herself (N of 1) and interpret cutting edge science messages for those who need it most.

I knocked off a star for the following reasons, there were so many recommendations for supplements or similar which I think is unrealistic for most everyday people with busy jobs and limited funds so it would have been nice to have separate lists for absolute musts and nice to haves.
I also think she talked too much about organic and grass fed produce… in an ideal worth we would all love to eat everything free range and organic but again it’s unrealistic for the everyday person with a family to feed… it did start making me feel pretty bad about what I am providing for my kids based on my income and not hers and the message started to become negative to me personally. I think the point only needed to be made once or twice.
All in all, I am glad I read this book for the kick up the b*** it has given me for 2024!

But her lifestyle is not relatable. I would like her to get a job as an NHS nurse on nightshifts as well as juggle her 4 kids, dogs and husband, and then write that book. I just don't find her suggestions that helpful. I don't know how much her weekly shop costs but I can't afford most of these swaps (swap your kids' snack of spinach for strips of organic beef with garlic mayo made from avocado oil? I think I'll buy the 99p bag of spinach actually, and consider they're doing well).
Also, technically you are not fasting if you are drinking organic coffee filled with grass-fed butter for breakfast.
But overall, I did finish it, I am now actively reading labels, avoiding seed oils (never heard this anywhere before) and am seriously considering overhauling my sweet tooth.
