Fairly enjoyable if you're a fan but also sorta smacks of desperation. Seems like a bit of a cash-in on the popularity of "The Office" after his other film projects failed to make any waves. Worth watching but obviously not on the same level as "The Office", re-grown goatee or not.

David Brent: Life on the Road
I probably wrote yet about Ricky Gervais. The English comedian I defined previously as he was actually a lot brilliant than he is generally considered by the critics. This time, connecting himself with one of his most interest, the world of music (a few know he also worked as the manager of the then-unknown band Suede before turning to comedy), re-proposing one of his most famous character, the salesman and willing rock star David Brent, a character he played in the BBC television comedy series The Office at the end of the nineties.
What was presented as a mockumentary comedy movie, it was on the other hand also the occasion for Gervais, one who is generally going to give much of himself in every of his productions and characters, to get a lot into his private life and standing at his own admissions much more than 'The Office' ever did.
Who's David Brent? Brent is a sales rep for bathroom supply, who works into a society where apparently noone is going to really appreciate him. He himself for first is not going to appreciate himself at all to tell the truth, despite the fact he is obviously not going to admitt it.
In the willing to find an affirmation of himself, he tries to resume his music career and decided to go on what he define as a tour (in practice he was going to make some concerts around the are he was living) with his rapper friend Dom (David is actually also his 'manager'), his sound engineeer, a PR consultant and a band who is going to play with him only because they're interested into money and David is going to pay everyone of them a lot.
On the other hand David is decided to spend all the money he had into the attempt to become famous or in any case to live a 'life on the road' and to feel like he was actually a rock star. Where to be a rock star it's in practice a synonime of being appreciated by the others.
A theme that's on the other hand a classic into the history of the rock and roll music and generally central into the existence of every individuality and that I also feel a lot like it was mine too. Of course in this case not discussed and argumented in a way so deep as it probably required to, but we are talking on the other hand on what's half a mockumentary half a comedy.
Not for this reason something trivial. Brilliant and at the same time also 'tragic' because of the evident state of suffering of the protagonist, what it didn't make it definitely a good movie it's possibly the fact it's too short or that in any case in the end things apparently are going to solve without who watches the movie has got the time to see the contents have got what we could consider as a natural process of improvement of all of the facts.

it's complicated
Don't often review films on here but felt like it for this one. First, the British Office is an absolute favorite, emotional and hilarious and genius. This movie is pretty much fine -- the awkwardness of situations is what you want to see Brent get into, the music is incredibly funny in brilliant, dry ways. All that is totally worth it.Spoiler time:

It's still pretty hilarious so maybe that's all that matters. I miss Stephen Merchant. I did give it an ok rating in the end because in the moment it's pretty enjoyable, it just left me with these lingering ideas.
