King Charles and other members of the Royal Family will follow the Queen’s coffin before and after the funeral service at Westminster Abbey.
Tens of thousands have filled the capital to pay their last respects just a few hours after the last person had filed past the Queen’s coffin, bringing to a close the symbolic ritual.
Presidents and prime ministers from across the globe filled the Abbey, with US President Joe Biden among the mourners alongside France’s President Emmanuel Macron, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, her counterpart from Canada Justin Trudeau, and Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.
Who is David Armstrong-Jones?
David Armstrong-Jones is the son of Princess Margaret – the only sibling of Queen Elizabeth II – and her ex-husband Antony Armstrong-Jones. Princess Margaret died in London in 2002, after suffering a fourth and final stroke at the age of 71.
Mr Armstrong-Jones was born on November 3, 1961. At the time, he was was fifth in the line of succession to the British throne; he is now the 24th.
He went on to open a shop in Dorking where he built and designed furniture for a few years, before launching his own company, David Linley Furniture Limited.
Now, it’s known as Linley, and according to Town & Country, the brand has designed for high-profile clients like Elton John and Valentino.
Speaking to The Telegraph, he said: “I inherited my love of design from my father, the Earl of Snowdon, who was always fascinated by pushing the boundaries of an object – working out how to make it touch the ground in two places rather than three.”
He has been married to Serena Armstrong-Jones, who is the Countess of Snowdon, since 1993. The pair have two children: Margarita Armstrong-Jones and Charles Armstrong-Jones.
When Antony Armstrong-Jones died in 2017, David became the 2nd Earl of Snowdon.
How is he involved in the funeral?
Mr David Armstrong-Jones will join in the funeral procession alongside other royals.
The King will walk with Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward just behind him, followed by the Queen’s grandsons, Peter Phillips, Prince William, and Prince Harry.
Next in the procession will be the late Queen’s son-in-law, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence; the Duke of Gloucester, her cousin; and her nephew, the Earl of Snowdon.
The procession will be led by a massed Pipes and Drums of Scottish and Irish Regiments, the Brigade of Gurkhas, and the Royal Air Force – numbering 200 musicians.
It will involve a total of about 6,000 representatives from all three Armed Forces – the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.
