Davey Johnson was born on Saturday, January 30, 1943, in Orlando, Florida. Johnson was 22 years old when he broke into the big leagues on April 13, 1965, with the Baltimore Orioles. His biographical data, year-by-year hitting stats, fielding stats, pitching stats (where applicable), career totals, uniform numbers, salary data and miscellaneous items-of-interest are presented by Baseball Almanac on this comprehensive Davey Johnson baseball stats page.
"After a highly successful career as both a slick-fielding infielder and a slugger, Davey Johnson went on to an even more decorated career as a manager. His winning percentage of .564 is 10th all-time among managers with 1,000 victories, and is surpassed by only Earl Weaver among pilots who began their career after 1960. But it was while playing for Weaver in Baltimore that Johnson first became a prominent name in baseball, as the valuable second baseman for four pennant winners and the 1966 and 1970 champions. Four men share the record for starting 21 World Series games for the Orioles: Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson, Boog Powell, and Dave Johnson." - Baseball Historian Mark Armour (SABR Baseball Biography Project, 'Davey Johnson', Source)

Davey Johnson Stats by Baseball Almanac |
Did you know that Davey Johnson hit forty-three home runs in 1973 and tied the Major League Baseball record for home runs by a second baseman in a season (the record is actually forty-two, one of Davey's 43 occurred while pinch hitting and it does not count towards positional records), a mark set by Hall of Famer Rogers Hornsby in 1922?
Darrell Evans, Hank Aaron & Davey Johnson | Atlanta Braves | Photoshopped by Baseball Almanac
Davey Johnson, Hank Aaron & Darrell Evans were the first trio of teammates in baseball history EVER to each hit 40 home runs in the same season when Johnson hit 43, Evans hit 41, and Aaron hit 40 while playing with the 1973 Atlanta Braves.
Often thought of as a successful manager - Davey is a two-time Manager of the Year Award winner (1997 in the American League & 2012 in the National League) and a World Series winner while at the helm of the 1986 New York Mets - Johnson could hit quite well (as illustrated by the two fast facts up above), he could field probably even better (a 3-time Gold Glove winner, 1969-1971), and he could even pinch hit quite nicely also, as he was the first player in Major League history to hit two pinch-hit grand slams during the same season (04-30-1978 / 06-03-1978).
