A Look Back at Harvey Weinstein & Georgina Chapman’s Relationship

When The New York Times and The New Yorker published their stunning exposés on the allegations of sexual misconduct and assault against Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced movie mogul seemed confident that then-wife Georgina Chapman would stand by him. But within weeks after that explosive publication, Chapman walked out, citing the well-being of her children and her ex-husbands “unforgivable actions.”

Weinstein and Chapman married in 2007, and reached a divorce settlement in early 2018, which requires Weinstein to pay his ex-spouse upward of $300,000 in spousal support every year. They divided assets including a $15 million West Village townhouse and a $12 million Hamptons house. Chapman will have primary custody of their two children, 6-year-old Dashiell and 9-year-old India Pearl.

When the designer announced her split from Weinstein in 2017, she made this statement to People: “My heart breaks for all the women who have suffered tremendous pain because of these unforgivable actions. I have chosen to leave my husband. Caring for my young children is my first priority and I ask the media for privacy at this time.”

In May 2018, Marchesa co-founder Chapman spoke out again, this time in an in-depth Vogue profile. “There was a part of me that was terribly naive—clearly, so naive,” she said, reflecting on her thought process in October 2017. “I have moments of rage, I have moments of confusion, I have moments of disbelief! And I have moments when I just cry for my children. What are their lives going to be? What are people going to say to them?”

As Chapman explained it, the New York Times article had her wavering — and the New Yorker article confirmed she couldn’t stay. “The first article was about a time long before I’d ever met him, so there was a minute where I couldn’t make an informed decision,” she said. “And then the stories expanded and I realized that this wasn’t an isolated incident. And I knew that I needed to step away and take the kids out of here.”

In the months that followed these revelations, Chapman hid out, knowing her complicity would be questioned, and not feeling her voice had a place in the aftermath. By 2018, she had a plan: “I had this crazy vision: I know what I need to do. I need to move to a farm upstate. My daughter loves riding; my son responds to animals. I need to build a farm…I’ve had to look at my life, and maybe I’m going to create something better for my children out of this.”

In February 2020, a close friend of Chapman’s confirmed to Page Six that she has been dating Adrien Brody. Chapman and Brody were spotted together in April 2019, and their relationship was confirmed days after Weinstein was convicted on rape charges in Manhattan.
