Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson has revealed he is confident striker Jack Marriott will stay at the club beyond this transfer window.

Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony recently revealed on his latest Hard Truth podcast episode that Marriott was attracting plenty of interest ahead of next Tuesday’s deadline.

The 28-year-old has played a role in Posh’s season so far, appearing 21 times in League One this season, scoring four goals and providing two assists.

At the end of December it was reported that Peterborough had told the striker he was free to leave the League One club this month.

However, Ferguson, who has just come in for his fourth spell as Posh manager is expecting a quite end to the transfer window for Peterborough, with minimal activity.

Ferguson told the Peterborough Telegraph: “I’ve had several honest conversations with Jack. We get on well and there’s a mutual respect.

"I respect his wish to play more regularly, but I strongly believe he will be with us for the rest of the season and he will play an important part in our promotion bid.

"Usually you get wind of impending bids for players, but I have heard nothing this month, about Jack or anyone. There has been plenty of clubs wanting to take Jack on loan, but that won’t happen.

"And if he is here I have no doubt he will get his head down and give his all in training and in matches. Jack is a good player, one of many I have at the club, but I can only pick 11 to start and 18 for a squad. I have to make tough decisions all the time

"I can’t give any player guarantees, but the only way Jack doesn’t get some games is if we go on a ridiculous run and win every match, we play without picking up any injuries and that doesn’t happen very often.”

The Verdict

Ferguson is a manager that knows how to get the best out of Marriott, as he has worked with the player before.

Under former boss Grant McCann, it looked as though Marriott’s time at Posh was coming to an end, but with Ferguson’s arrival, it could mean the 28-year-old stays at London Road beyond this transfer window, as Ferguson will hope the striker can help in Posh’s promotion bid.

There doesn’t seem to have been any concrete interest in the striker either, and Peterborough may now be willing to let the striker remain beyond this window and see what happens during the rest of the campaign before re-assessing in the summer.
