FIFA let fans vote for their Dream Team on their official website, with each voter being allowed to choose between a 4-4-2, 4-3-3, 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 formation.

Players eligible for the team must have made at least three appearances in Russia, while each voter could select only three players from the same country.

The official team lines up in a 4-3-3 formation, and it has some rather unexpected inclusions.

Golden Glove winner Thibaut Courtois was selected in goal, while France defender Raphael Varane, Brazil's Thiago Silva, Uruguay's Diego Godin and Brazil's Marcelo form the back four.

In central midfield, Golden Ball winner Luka Modric was chosen, along with Brazil's Philippe Coutinho and Belgium's Kevin De Bruyne.

Silver Ball winner Eden Hazard and Bronze Ball winner Antoine Griezmann were somewhat surprisingly snubbed, while Young Player of the Tournament Kylian Mbappe and Golden Boot winner Harry Kane were joined by Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo up front.

Modric was the most selected player, receiving 65 177 of the votes, followed by Coutinho with 59 093 votes and Mbappe with 54 325.

While a technical study group consisting of journalists nominated the World Cup All Star teams previously, FIFA made a change in 2010, when they started an online voting system on their website to let fans from all over the world vote for their Dream Team.
