At the opening ceremony of the first line, the government also assured Tanzanians that the 627 km line will be open by July 2024, with 65 out of 89 passenger cars already ordered for these services.

The Tanzania Railway Corporation (TRC) also confirmed that nine out of 19 new passenger and freight locomotives have been delivered, while only one out of 10 ordered Hyundai Rotem electric trains is currently in its possession.
