Campaign website

Goldman's campaign website stated the following:

Protecting and Strengthening Our Democracy

As lead counsel for the impeachment investigation of former President Trump, Dan helped expose how Trump abused his power for his personal benefit. Unfortunately, this was just one of many times that Trump abused the power of his office and undermined our democratic values, traditions, and guardrails. Trump flouted long-standing precedents, norms, and laws and his administration exposed significant weaknesses in our democratic institutions. He sought to enrich himself, protect himself and his family from legal exposure, and put our country and our elections at risk through his corruption.

Donald Trump was not the first and will not be the last president to test the strength of our democracy. That is why we must pass new laws that will safeguard our democracy against abusive and corrupt leaders who do not adhere to their oath of office. One such law is the Protecting Our Democracy Act – which Dan helped draft while he worked in Congress – to prevent presidential abuses of power, restore oversight powers to Congress, and protect whistleblowers and Inspectors General.

Congress must also increase transparency, improve trust in our institutions, bolster the rule of law, and codify norms and practices that were abused during the Trump administration. Congress’s role as a co-equal branch of government must also be strengthened, and both the intelligence community and the Department of Justice must be de-politicized.

Voting Rights

Our democracy is facing an existential crisis in the wake of the GOP's realization that its policies won’t win elections so suppressing (or overturning) the vote is the only way to do so. The right to vote is the foundation of our democracy. Voting needs to be more accessible and the principle of one person one vote must be protected.

In the wake of the Big Lie and through bogus assertions of “voter fraud,” Republicans across the country are working to pass state-level laws that would empower partisan officials to change the results of elections without any proof. Dan believes we must pass federal laws to prevent partisan elected officials from overturning the will of the people. Only the courts should be permitted to adjudicate disputed election results.

We must continue to push back against the lies Republicans are spreading about our elections. In Congress, Dan will call for an immediate congressional investigation into allegations of voter fraud to expose the Republican lie that widespread voter fraud exists.

Dan supports the For the People Act because it would make voting more accessible by instituting automatic voter registration, no-excuse vote-by-mail, and early voting. Additionally, by banning partisan gerrymandering we can ensure Congressional redistricting is done in a fair and nonpartisan way. Dan also supports legislation to make Election Day a federal holiday.

Dan is fully supportive of the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which would help prevent discriminatory voting laws from being passed at the state level by reinstituting the preclearance requirement. In the aftermath of Shelby, voter suppression laws with a discriminatory impact have dramatically expanded around the country. This law would prevent such discriminatory voter suppression laws from being passed.

Dan has long focused on voting rights, dating back to law school when, in 2005, he wrote a law review article on how felon disenfranchisement laws were the modern-day literacy test. If elected, Dan would champion the Democracy Restoration Act, which, among other things, restores the right to vote for previously incarcerated citizens.

Protecting Reproductive Rights

Abortion rights are human rights. Abortion is a healthcare decision that should be made between an individual and their doctor, not the government.

The radical Supreme Court has made the disastrous decision to overturn the longstanding precedent set by Roe v. Wade. The Dobbs decision marks the first time in history that the Supreme Court has taken away a fundamental constitutional right.

States across the country are already banning abortions from inception. Abortion bans at the state level will disproportionately affect low-income and minority women, especially Black women. Maternal mortality for Black women is already three times higher than for white women. According to a study by the University of Colorado, a nationwide abortion ban would increase maternal mortality for Black women by as much as 33%.

Some women may be able to travel to another state that has not restricted reproductive rights, but many cannot afford to. For those that do travel across state lines to access reproductive healthcare, we must make sure they and their healthcare providers are protected from prosecution.

With Roe overturned, Congress must pass the Women’s Health Protection Act to codify abortion rights into federal law and immediately repeal the Hyde Amendment. Additionally, the Federal Drug Administration and Health and Human Services should ensure the protection of and access to abortion including through prescription medication at the federal level which would supersede state-level restrictions or bans.

We also need to get creative about finding ways to provide reproductive healthcare on federal lands including by making Veterans Administration hospitals safe havens for women seeking medical care of all kinds. Congress should also provide additional funding to non-profit groups that provide support to women around the country who seek abortions.

Finally, we must ensure that women who suffer miscarriages are able to get proper medical care. Congress must also protect access to IVF for families who need medical assistance to get pregnant.

Healthcare

Dan believes that healthcare is a fundamental right and every American should have access to high-quality healthcare. That is why Dan supports a public option for healthcare so that every American, no matter their income, has access to free healthcare. In addition, Dan believes that Americans should also be able to purchase private health insurance if they choose.

Prescription drugs are excessively expensive in the United States. According to the RAND Corporation, the United States spends 2.56 times more on prescription drugs than similar nations. Dan strongly supports empowering Medicare (or another public option for healthcare) to negotiate prescription drug prices to make prescription drugs more affordable.

Protecting Social Security & Medicare

It's getting more difficult to save for retirement. So while Republicans in Congress are trying to cut and privatize Social Security and Medicare, Dan is running for Congress to uphold this country’s promise to its seniors: if you work hard, you deserve to retire with dignity. That’s why Dan will work hard to defend Social Security and ensure that benefits keep up with the rising cost of living. Dan supports an immediate expansion of monthly Social Security benefits.

Medicare is the other part of America's promise to its citizens, and Dan supports expanding Medicare by lowering eligibility to age 60 and allowing people 55 and older to buy in. Dan also supports allowing Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices to reduce the cost of prescription drugs, which disproportionately affect seniors.

The Republicans are clear that they want to “sunset” Social Security and Medicare, but that will inevitably lead to darkness. Dan will fight to protect Social Security and Medicare so that a promise made is a promise kept.

Climate Change/Green New Deal

Climate change is an urgent, existential threat that must be addressed immediately and comprehensively. There is no time for half-measures; we must transition to renewable energy as quickly as possible. Dan supports the principles and goals of a Green New Deal to transition to clean energy, which will also create millions of good-paying union jobs. However, the government cannot do this alone. Dan will work to incentivize private companies to invest in renewable energy and encourage community and public power production. We must promote public-private partnerships to address climate change at the necessary pace to save our planet.

The 10th District was devastated by Hurricane Sandy, and the impacts are still felt by the community, especially in the NYCHA residential areas. While Dan supports the main pieces of the East Side Coastal Resiliency Plan with the federal government, we need to ensure that this plan is comprehensive and transparent in order to minimize destabilization in the neighboring communities while also ensuring that the devastation of Sandy never happens again. Dan will work with both local and federal officials to ensure that this plan not only pays attention to the needs of the community but also ensures that our environmental resiliency needs are met to protect all of the residents of lower Manhattan.

Gun Violence/Gun Reform

Dan supports common-sense gun control legislation, including a ban on assault weapons; universal background checks and waiting periods to purchase guns; stronger red flag laws; and the prohibition of ghost guns and high-capacity ammunition. Dan also believes we should raise the minimum age to purchase any firearm to 21.

The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act that was recently signed into law was a step in the right direction, but Congress must do much more. Dan supports repealing the 2005 Protection of Commerce in Lawful Arms Act that provides federal immunity for gun manufacturers and dealers. As part of that effort, we must also focus on the outsized influence of the NRA and gun manufacturers on Republican members of Congress. Congress must investigate gun manufacturers and dealers to determine to what extent gun manufacturers are aware of the impact of their marketing, advertising, and money on the scourge of mass shootings around the country.

We know that an overwhelming majority of voters – including Republicans and gun owners – believe in universal background checks and other common sense legislation opposed by the gun lobby, yet the Republican Party shows more loyalty to the gun lobby than its own constituents. We must understand what drives this nexus in order to properly legislate on this issue.

Immigration

We are a country of immigrants. Dan’s grandmother escaped antisemitism in Russia to come to the United States through Ellis Island. Diversity and opportunity are what make this city and country great. We simply cannot allow Donald Trump – and his draconian, racist, ineffective immigration policy – to have yet another term as President.

Instead, the United States should welcome immigrants and make it easier for immigrants to come to this country and pursue the American Dream. By expanding our lawful immigration process, and streamlining our immigration system, we can combat the need for people to seek illegal and dangerous means of crossing into the United States. Congress must also explore ways to expand access to seasonal work visas for certain industries.

In Congress, one of Dan’s first orders of business will be to introduce legislation to double the number of immigration judges in our system and streamline the asylum process so that we don’t have a backlog of asylum-seekers in inhumane conditions. Second, Dan would press for undocumented people, including Dreamers, to have a pathway to citizenship. Finally, Dan would help ensure that our immigrant neighbors are treated with dignity and respect by increasing penalty enhancements for hate crimes.

Criminal Justice Reform/Public Safety

We must make our city and communities safe. To do that, we don’t need to choose between reform and public safety — those two objectives are inherently linked. As the only candidate in the race with a law enforcement background – and who has also demonstrated a lifelong commitment to criminal justice reform – Dan brings experience and a unique understanding of this challenge to this race.

Dan spent ten years as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York working with Preet Bharara, serving as a supervisor in the Organized Crime Unit and as Senior Trial Counsel. There, Dan prosecuted mafia bosses, violent criminals, and corporate fraud. Dan saw first-hand how the system can have a life-long impact on young people and also how the proliferation of guns drives so much of the violence we are dealing with.

Underlying his career in public service has been a lifelong commitment to civil rights, social justice, and progressive values. Dan’s research on racial disparities in the criminal justice system went into Michelle Alexander’s seminal book – The New Jim Crow – which documented the inequalities in the criminal justice system. We must divert more nonviolent offenders and get them the services and education they need, particularly youth and those dealing with mental health and addiction issues. To that end, Dan believes that we must increase funding for vocational education for non-violent offenders, substance abuse treatment, and mental health treatment in order to address the root cause of much of the crime in our city.

In addition to trying to keep people out of the criminal justice system, we must also help people stay out of the system. Dan supports Clean Slate and investing in re-entry programs — including job training and job placement — so we can end the cycle of recidivism. We need to create partnerships with corporations to hire individuals recently released from prison with good-paying jobs. Federal dollars can support nonprofit organizations to assist in training and education.

We need to address the abundance of guns by banning assault weapons, imposing waiting periods, and limiting access to guns for young people and individuals at significant risk of harming themselves or engaging in violence. Gun trafficking is a serious issue in this country. Guns are bought in states with less restrictive gun laws and trafficked across state lines, often through the “Iron Pipeline.” We need to expand federal law to crack down on gun trafficking as well as promote better cooperation between federal, state, and local prosecutors.

We must invest in better policing, provide better de-escalation training, selective bias training, and hold wrongdoers accountable. Dan also supports limiting qualified immunity and creating a national database to ensure bad cops can’t bounce from job to job. We must also allocate more funding to support social workers, diversion programs, and mental health professionals. We need to provide the necessary services and support for domestic disputes and homelessness, which currently occupy a disproportionate amount of police officers’ time. By making these investments, we can allow the police to focus on what they are trained to do: fight crime.

Affordable Housing

The solution to affordable housing requires two things: more housing and better housing. In order to do that, Dan believes we need to incentivize public-private partnerships – we allow the private companies to do what they do better than the government (i.e., building) but require them to give back much more to the community in the way of affordable housing, community and public space, and services such as early childhood development, medical facilities, and mass transit. We also must ensure rigorous environmental controls are followed to ensure that affordable housing is not just relegated to areas with environmental concerns.

Public housing occupies a large part of the housing stock in the 10th congressional district. The treatment of these neighbors by city, state, and the federal government has been a disgrace.

In addition to fully funding NYCHA, we must also take advantage of partnerships with the private sector through programs such as the NYCHA Preservation Trust and the Rental Assistance Demonstration program. Federal dollars can support private firms to update and manage other properties while NYCHA maintains ownership.

At the federal level, the failure of Congress to pass the Build Back Better Act means that NYCHA lost out on $65 billion dollars that was earmarked to fix the infrastructure issues within all of the City’s complexes, including 15 within the 10th Congressional district. Every resident in NYCHA deserves a safe, clean, and functioning place to live, and Dan will not stop fighting for NYCHA to get the funding it needs to repair and rehabilitate its complexes around the 10th District.

LGBTQIA+ Rights

For years, members of the LGBTQIA+ community have fought for equal rights. For a time, it seemed we were on the right path as a country, but today, we’re seeing an increase in transphobia, specifically targeting children in schools. Republican-led legislatures are passing bills that essentially force educators to pretend the LGBTQIA+ community doesn’t exist.

We must do more to protect LGBTQIA+ youth and make schools a safe environment for everyone. According to a 2022 survey by the Trevor Project, 45% of LGBTQ youth seriously considered suicide in the last year. Young LGBTQIA+ people of color also reported higher rates of attempted suicide than white youth.

With the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade – and Justice Clarence Thomas’s concurrence, which specifically called into question the legal foundation for marriage equality – marriage equality and LGBTQIA+ relationships are under attack. We must pass the Equality Act to protect the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community and prevent discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

Education

For years we have known that our public education system is not equitable. The COVID-19 pandemic further proved that point as schools across the country struggled to deal with the challenges the pandemic posed. However, some schools were able to adjust much more easily than others.

Quality public education should be available to all American children, regardless of their zip code. We need to invest more in public schools and our teachers to give them the resources they need to provide our children with a great education. We must also ensure our children are able to learn in a safe and healthy environment. School lunches should be provided free of charge to any student who wants them, regardless of their family’s economic status.

One of Dan’s top priorities will be increased federal funding for free pre-K and early childhood development, especially daycare and programs for children ages zero to three. Data shows that the earlier a child is given access to high-quality programs the better outcomes that child will have. In addition, free early childhood daycare for less advantaged Americans would allow parents to return to work and maintain steady jobs, thereby reducing poverty for many new parents.

Dan supports student debt forgiveness for the most financially stressed and those defrauded by for-profit schools. Congress should focus on making higher education more affordable and finding solutions to lower interest rates of student loans. Dan also believes community colleges and vocational schools should be tuition-free.

In New York State, we have great public university systems that are in need of more help from Washington: SUNY and CUNY. Both systems offer excellent, affordable education, and Dan believes that the federal government can do more to support them. Funding from Washington for both SUNY and CUNY would make college more affordable and also encourage more students to attend the city and state’s public universities.

National Security & International Affairs

The twin goals of strengthening democracy and mitigating the risks of climate change must be at the forefront of American policy today. Dan’s experience as Director of Investigations and Senior Advisor for the House Intelligence Committee taught him the importance of promoting democracy around the world, which ensures human rights, stability, and prosperity. The United States can and should be a leader in promoting democracy and human rights around the world. It is not only the morally right thing to do, it is in our national security interest to do so.

In order to be a beacon of human rights and democracy for the world, we need to invest more in diplomacy and development. Despite finally ending the endless wars, our defense budget has skyrocketed to more than $800 billion a year. We spend more money on “defense” than the next nine countries combined. Congress must rein in the defense budget so we can fund other critical international and domestic programs. Dan also supports better accountability and transparency over the Defense Department’s budget.

Over the coming decades, the most severe risks to peace and security across the globe will be driven by the symptoms of climate change – drought, famine, resource shortages, refugee crises and other migration, and natural disasters. Addressing climate change at home and abroad must be central to America’s engagement with the world.

Ukraine and the threat from Russia

As the lead counsel for the impeachment investigation of former President Trump, Dan helped expose Trump’s abuse of power as he withheld critical aid to Ukraine for his personal benefit. Although military aid was a somewhat abstract concept to many Americans, we have seen in recent months through Russia’s invasion of Ukraine why that type of military and security assistance is so important to promote democracy and stability around the world.

Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine is not just a threat to Ukraine’s sovereignty and Ukrainian lives, but it is a threat to international order and democracy globally. Russia is committing war crimes, crimes against humanity, and possibly genocide in Ukraine. The United States has a duty to support Ukraine in its fight against Russia by providing military and humanitarian aid as well as support for Ukrainians who are displaced by this war. The U.S. should also continue to share intelligence and support national and international justice institutions in their investigations to hold Russian officials accountable. Congress should continue to authorize aid to Ukraine and provide support and oversight of targeted sanctions – we simply cannot afford to allow an authoritarian regime like Russia to invade a democracy like Ukraine and destabilize the post-World War II world order.

Israel

As an American Jew with longstanding ties to Israel, Dan’s support for Israel comes naturally, not through political expediency. Dan will proudly stand with Israel to ensure its continued security and prosperity. Dan believes a two-state solution is the only long-term means to ensure that Israel remains both a democracy and a Jewish state, while ensuring an economically-viable Palestinian state. Both Israel and the Palestinians must demonstrate their good faith belief in a two-state solution in order for progress to be made. But, Palestinians must show their commitment to achieving peace and statehood non-violently; in turn, Israel must provide more economic opportunity and self-reliance to Palestinian communities in the West Bank. So long as the terrorist organization Hamas remains in control of Gaza, a durable peace cannot be achieved. The Palestinian Authority must regain control of Gaza so a new peace process may commence.

Dan does not believe Israel’s occupation of territory in the West Bank has advanced the peace process. If a two-state solution can ever be viable, Israel should not expand settlements or annex territory in the West Bank. Just as Israel has a right to exist, Palestinians have a right to have their basic human rights respected and protected.

Antisemitism has been on the rise over the last decade. The rise of antisemitism has coincided with the rise of the “BDS Movement.” Dan categorically opposes this movement, which he believes is a thinly-veiled demonstration of antisemitism. It is a threat to America’s and Israel’s aspirations for peace and security in the region.

Expanding the Middle Class

The cost of living keeps increasing while wages remain the same. Many Americans were already struggling to make ends meet - now with rising costs due to inflation, and in some cases corporate greed, it is getting even harder. Americans need to get back to work, but that work must be compensated fairly. That is why Dan is supportive of the PRO Act which makes it easier for employees to form a union to negotiate for better pay, benefits, and working conditions. The PRO Act also increases penalties for corporations that engage in union-busting or retaliate against workers who are organizing and speaking out to improve their workplace. Strengthening unions helps decrease income inequality and produces a stronger economy for all.

We need to expand the economic pie and increase opportunity for all Americans. A rising tide lifts all boats, and the federal government must incentivize creativity and innovation. Dan believes we should promote business development and require corporations to pay their fair share and give more back to the communities they rely upon, which will create jobs and expand the tax base, helping lift people out of poverty.

Dan supports increasing the national minimum wage, universal child care, making healthcare affordable, paid family leave, and the Social Security 2100 Act, which will expand and protect Social Security into the next century.

Many of the issues everyday Americans struggle with are intertwined. A lack of affordable housing makes housing prices go up and puts buying a home out of reach. The high cost of childcare with no paid family leave makes it difficult for couples to start a family and maintain their careers. Congress has a role to play by appropriating funds to support new housing development, provide more oversight over monopolies, and extend the expanded child tax credit which has been one of the most successful anti-poverty actions in decades.

During the pandemic, businesses across the country suffered as their doors were shuttered for months. In the 10th congressional district, there are countless small businesses that still need more aid from the federal government.

Dan will fight for more aid from Washington to assist with the expenses and continuous help that small businesses need from Congress. Dan will advocate for more funding in the budget for the small business owners and workers in the 10th congressional district.

Long-term solutions to supply-chain issues that are driving up inflation will take time, however the federal government must act quickly and decisively to do everything in its power to alleviate the disparity between supply and demand. Congress should make more funds available to help clear the backlogs at our ports. We need to modernize our systems and extend railways to speed up the transfer of goods.

Combating All Forms of Racism, Bigotry, and Hate

New York’s greatest strength is its diversity. However, there are some who see diversity as a threat and are acting on it. Hate crimes have been on the rise the past few years and our top law enforcement officials have warned that white supremacists are the greatest domestic violent extremist threat our country faces today.

Instead of doing something about this growing threat, Republicans are fighting a culture war to whitewash our country’s history. By not effectively teaching our children about racism, implicit bias, and our shared history—the good and the bad—we help extremist groups control the narrative.

We must do more to combat all forms of hate and violence. Congress must act to ensure the FBI, Department of Justice, and Department of Homeland Security are taking the appropriate steps to investigate threats, protect vulnerable populations, and hold individuals and groups accountable. More funds must be appropriated to help local law enforcement and community-based organizations combat hatred and protect communities. The federal penalty for committing a hate crime must be increased.

Congress must conduct oversight of federal law enforcement agencies to ensure they are taking these threats seriously. The White House’s National Strategy for Countering Domestic Terrorism clearly identified the threat white supremacists pose to communities and our nation. Yet a year later, in the “Report to the Secretary of Homeland Security Domestic Violent Extremism Internal Review: Observations, Findings, and Recommendations,” white supremacy was not mentioned once. It is important that we identify the threats we face today and work to address them accordingly.

COVID-19 Response

Dan supports the Biden Administration’s plan to increase COVID-19 vaccinations and booster shots for all Americans. While the Administration has been successful over the past two years in getting people vaccinated, we need to ensure that we keep our frontline workers protected as well. We also must continue to invest in research on the next iteration of the vaccine and booster shots to ensure we stay ahead of another potential COVID-19 outbreak.

Upon election to congress, Dan plans to work with the administration to continue to vaccinate our most vulnerable communities in the district, especially our immunocompromised, elderly, and children. We must continue to open centers for vaccinations and boosters, and also have a plan to continue to protect our frontline workers such as nurses and warehouse workers in the 10th Congressional district.

We must also do more to better coordinate public health at the federal level. The pandemic taught us that our local, state, and federal health systems are not built well for communication and information sharing. We need to improve data collection and monitoring so we can better track trends in a coordinated manner.

As we’ve seen from the response to the monkeypox outbreak, there is still a lot of work to do to strengthen the coordination of our public health system. We need to prepare now for the next major public health crisis.

Combating Disinformation

Disinformation may be the single greatest threat to the health of our democracy. When Americans can’t agree on a set of facts, it becomes impossible to resolve disputes and move forward. As we have seen in the past three elections, disinformation – both foreign and domestic – has had a detrimental impact on the perceived legitimacy of our elections. While respecting the First Amendment, we must combat disinformation.

If elected, Dan would work to make it a crime to intentionally spread false information about elections, including when, where, and how people can vote. We must also incentivize schools to teach media literacy and how to identify questionable sources of information and misinformation. We must hold tech companies more accountable by requiring social media platforms to disclose their algorithms so independent watchdogs can provide much-needed oversight.

Community Plan

Combating Hate Crimes

Since 2020, hate crimes against the Asian community have increased by 339 percent nationwide. In New York, there was a 368 percent increase, with 131 hate crimes targeting Asians in 2021, compared to 28 in 2020 and just one in 2019, according to the NYPD statistics.

Congress must act to ensure the FBI, Department of Justice, and Department of Homeland Security are taking the appropriate steps to investigate threats, protect vulnerable populations, and hold individuals and groups accountable. More funds must be appropriated to help local law enforcement and community-based organizations combat hatred and protect communities as well as providing culturally competent policing and law enforcement. The federal penalty for committing a hate crime must be increased.

Public Safety

We need real, proven solutions to reduce crime and build true, lasting safety for everyone in the district.

Dan is calling for Federal laws and law enforcement to crack down on the influx of illegal guns into New York through the Iron Pipeline and to end the proliferation of ghost guns. We also need to strengthen community-building programs that have proven records of success, such as the B-HEARD initiative.

In Congress, Dan will push for greater federal investment into mental health and crisis counseling programs and to help develop a robust emergency response system. By investing in emergency mental health resources to ensure law enforcement response teams include trained mental health professionals, we can both improve outcomes of mental health emergency calls and free up police resources to focus on uniformed street patrol and violent crimes.

Dan also supports programs to enhance cultural competence and language access in all law enforcement agencies, from police to prosecutors to judges.

Dan will also push for much needed federal funding to build safety upgrades like platform safety barriers and fully operational safety cameras on public transit.

Supporting Small Business

In far too many instances, small business pandemic recovery funds left out APIA small business owners because of a lack of language access and/or because they share zip codes with wealthier neighborhoods.

The lack of tourism and foot traffic due to the pandemic severely hampered Chinatown business recovery and now rising interest rates and a potential recession threaten to disproportionately impact the community.

Dan will fiercely advocate for more federal funding for small business recovery and increased language accessible support services, as well as culturally competent outreach so APIA small-business owners are aware of these services.

Language Accessibility

We need to ensure that language is not a barrier for accessing federal immigration forms and other important information and documents. While the federal government has made many of these forms available in several languages, it is still difficult to navigate these websites in English to gain access to the translated documents.

Dan will advocate for additional updates to certain federal websites to create translated versions that make it easier to find information and documents, and in Congress will provide aggressive oversight to ensure comprehensive implementation.

Education

Education is a pathway to success and Dan firmly believes in the need to fully fund high-quality education for everyone and push our educational institutions towards excellence.

We need to continue to expand funding and resources for our schools and our educators. It’s unacceptable that teachers are still being forced to buy their own supplies for their classes. We need more funding for multilingual/multicultural education and programming. Schools must provide language accessible resources for parents and guardians so that they can participate more fully in students’ education.

Dan will work to reduce school overcrowding, improve facilities, and open new opportunities for our students. Dan will work to support and expand scholarships, student aid, public interest debt forgiveness programs, and pathways to success.

Additionally, we need to construct talent pipelines from underserved communities into fields that face severe talent shortages, such as nursing, medicine, and education.

Dan will fight to make sure that there are sufficient nurses, social workers, and mental health counselors available in all school districts. We need to construct more community schools with wraparound services as well as summer programming, universal childcare, and youth employment programs.

2nd Ave Subway

Phase 2 of the expansion of the Second Ave. Subway has begun to extend the Second Ave. line up to 125th Street in East Harlem. We need to secure additional funding from the federal government to begin the next phase of the Second Ave. line expansion to extend the line into Chinatown and Sunset Park. Dan will work to secure additional infrastructure funding to help make this project a reality.

ADA Compliance and Assistance

We want to ensure Americans with disabilities are able to visit businesses and restaurants without issue. For many small businesses, however, coming into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act can be cost-prohibitive. Dan will work to secure federal funding to help businesses and restaurants comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act without undue financial burden.

Social Security and Medicare

Dan will defend Social Security and ensure that benefits keep up with the rising cost of living. Dan supports an immediate expansion of monthly Social Security benefits. Dan firmly believes in the need to expand healthcare access, and supports expanding Medicare by lowering eligibility to age 60 and allowing people 55 and older to buy in.

Immigration Reform

Immigrant communities are the soul of New York. Dan supports reforming and streamlining the immigration process by improving language accessibility for immigrant services, dedicating more resources to hiring USCIS caseworkers to speed up applications, and pushing for more funding for services for recent immigrants, including language classes and workforce development.

In Congress, one of Dan’s first orders of business will be to introduce legislation to double the number of immigration judges in our system and streamline the asylum process so that we don’t have a backlog of asylum-seekers in inhumane conditions. He also firmly believes that undocumented immigrants must have a pathway to citizenship.[18]
