Dancing on the Valentine is a Duran Duran related annual benefit concert for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, founded by Jenny George and first held in Seattle, WA, USA during 2004.

About the event[]

The driving force behind the event is Jenny George, a leukemia survivor who beat the disease at age 16 with help from the music of her favorite band Duran Duran. When Jenny was diagnosed at age 12, she was given less than thirty days to live and told that she would never have children. That was over twenty years ago. Today, she is a dedicated mother who, in addition to her day job, is committed to raising money to cure the disease and help children going through the same experience she once endured. Jenny’s birthday is Valentine’s Day, and every year she hosts Dancing on the Valentine in gratitude for another year of life.

The aim of the benefit concert is to raise funds the Leukemia & Lymphoma, the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education, and patient services. The Society’s mission is to cure Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin’s Disease and Myeloma, as well as improve the quality of life for patients and their families.

Jeff Kleinsmith designed the poster for the first concert held in 2004, which featured all the bands performing Duran Duran cover songs. The bands were The Long Winters, Kinski, The Flaming No No's, The Capillaries, SloMo Rabbit Kick, Debaser, and DJ Goldstar. The title of the event is a reference to Jenny’s Valentine’s Day birthday and is also the name of a Duran Duran video (Dancing on the Valentine). The next concert was held in 2007, which was also a Duran Duran tribute evening. Subsequents shows have been based on various themes.
