Despite traveling a roadblock-filled path -- much of the upper-class recoil at the thought of black musicians playing in polite society -- the city's more progressive socialites, including members of the royal household, take debonair leader Louis Lester and his cohorts under their wing. But when the band gets entangled in a shadowy world, it results in a suspected murder that could wreck its career. Read More Read Less Watch on Fandango at Home Premiered Feb 24 Buy Now

      Critics Consensus

Visually resplendent but occasionally pretentious, Dancing on the Edge benefits from a first-rate cast and a terrific 1930s jazz soundtrack.

Phil Dyess-Nugent AV Club This show doesn't dance - on the edge, or anywhere else. Instead, it lumbers straight into the tar pit. Rated: C- Oct 24, 2013 Full Review David Bianculli NPR The five episodes... are brimming with twists, surprises, delightful set pieces - and some very unexpected performances. Oct 23, 2013 Full Review Tim Goodman Hollywood Reporter Dancing on the Edge is a thing of beauty to watch, as the scenes of noirish late-night jazz discoveries in 1930s England are so wonderful to behold. Oct 23, 2013 Full Review Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat Spirituality & Practice An exquisitely mounted miniseries about the interplay between a black jazz band and the upper crust of English society in the 1930s. christina o I'm a couple of episodes behind but thoroughly enjoying this fare!! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member We think it is iPhone of the best shows we have ever watched, in every way from writing, directing, filming editing. We think the critics if this are pretentious, not this show. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Riveted to my stream for the duration of this intriguing, well-cast and well-acted drama (sometimes melodramatic). The coda (episode 6) helps put the pieces together or not. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I think it is excellent and am dismayed by the poor ratings and reviews.
